Pakistan not to surrender its water rights

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP): Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar firmly stated before the National Assembly on Tuesday that the government remained resolute in not relinquishing its water rights, emphasizing that any alteration to the Indus Water Treaty necessitated mutual consent from both Pakistan and India.
Addressing a Calling Attention Notice in the House, he underscored India’s attempts to violate the agreement, highlighting the World Bank’s role as a signatory committed to upholding its integrity.
He reiterated that the Indus Water Treaty stood immutable unless both Pakistan and India reach a consensus for modification.
 Azam Nazeer reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent stance against Indian transgressions, asserting that the Pakistan vigorously contests any violations through appropriate channels, assuring that Pakistan would take necessary means to safeguard its rights.
Elaborating on the treaty’s framework established by the World Bank in 1960, Azam Nazeer clarified that India held water rights over the Ravi, Sutlej, and Bias rivers, while Pakistan retained control over the Chenab, Sindh, and Jhelum rivers.

Japanese envoy calls on law minister

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP): Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, WADA Mitsuhiro paid a courtesy call to Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar here on Tuesday.
Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest, culture and traditions, said a press release. The minister stated that Japan is a very close friend of Pakistan and has assisted in times of need. He specifically lauded the efforts of Japan during floods of 2022.
Both sides also discussed the security situation and the measures which are being taken to ensure the security of all the foreign personnel present in the country.
Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored the government’s resolve and special focus on the security concerns. The govt was organizing a special protection unit on the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he added.
He said: “We are hopeful that situation will get better in terms of economy. The Government was keen and determined for Economic revival.”
The ongoing work on legal reforms was also discussed between the two sides. Azam Nazeer Tarar assured the ambassador of all kinds of assistance from the Pakistan’s government to facilitate the foreign dignatories present in the country.

Govt committed to implement minimum wages: NA told

ISLAMABAD, April 23 (APP): The National Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution urging the government to ensure the payment of minimum wages in both government-run departments and private enterprises.
The resolution was introduced by MNA Syed Rafiullah.
In response, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb said that federal government is committed to implementing minimum wages in the capital and its affiliated departments.
He said that Deputy Commissioners and Commissioners in the federal capital are overseeing the implementation of minimum wages.  He further said that following the passage of the minimum wage legislation by parliament, a notification was issued for its implementation.

Bill drafted to regulate veterinary sciences and animal welfare: Tanveer

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP): Federal Minister of Industries and Production and National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain Tuesday said the government was committed to increase export of livestock from Pakistan since this sector contributes around 62% of the agricultural GDP of the country.

Addressing a meeting, he said livestock sector was very important in the agriculture economy of Pakistan as around eight million families were connected to this sector.

He said there was a lot of potential to earn foreign exchange from the livestock sector.

He said Pakistan was the fourth largest milk producing country and all necessary steps would be taken to meet the requirements of meat and milk across the country.

Rana Tanveer said the current government’s mission is the development of the agricultural sector and also determined to increase the export of livestock.

He said for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a bill has been drafted to regulate veterinary sciences and animal welfare. The bill will soon be sent to the cabinet for approval.

He said practical measures are being taken to protect livestock from diseases.

“Strengthening the surveillance system to protect animals from diseases is need of the time,” he said adding  that concrete measures are being taken to create real-time data of animal diseases in the country.

He said a track and trace system for the animals is also being devised which will help control movement of animals.

Earlier, Commissioner Livestock Dr Akram gave a briefing to the federal minister about the challenges faced by livestock as well as functioning of the department.

Federal Secretary Food Security Capt (r) Muhammad Asif was also present in the briefing.

Kashmir delegations, GB Councils members calls on Engr Amir Muqam

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP): Kashmir delegations and Gilgit Baltistan Councils’ members called on Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan and State and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) separately here at the Ministry on Tuesday.

They felicitated Engr Amir Muqam on assuming his charge as federal minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, said a press release.

During the meetings, matters pertaining to Kashmir Council and Gilgit Baltistan Council, development projects and problems faced by the masses were discussed in detail.

Speaking on the occasion, Engr Amir Muqam said that Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan would extend all out cooperation for resolving problems faced by the local populace of the country’s northern region.

He said that working relationships between Federal and Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan governments would be improved further.

The minister also vowed to work for the welfare, development and prosperity of Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.

Earlier, a delegation led by President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chapter Shah Ghulam Qadir called on Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr Amir Muqam here at the Ministry.

On this occasion, the Central Vice Presidents of PML-N Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz, Raja Naseer Ahmad Khan, Minister Azad Jammu Kashmir Hafiz Ahmad Raza Qadri and Deputy Secretary General Sardar Abdul Khaliq Wasi and member of the Central Council Professor Owais Bin Wasi were also present.

In the meeting, issues of mutual interest and the current political situation in the region were discussed in detail.

Governor Punjab hails Pak-Iran friendship

President of Iran Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi hailed the city of Lahore for its beauty and grandeur, adding that it houses many architectural heritage sites.
President Raisi expressed the hope that his visit will enhance people to people ties between the two countries

Shaheera Shahid visits Press Council of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 23 (APP): Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Shaheera Shahid visited Press Council of Pakistan’s (PCP) Secretariat on Tuesday and lauded its performance in addressing the problems faced by journalist community.
According to a press release issued here, the secretary said appointment of Chairman PCP Arshad Khan Jadoon would further improve the performance of the institution.
She said that opening of one-window operation had improved confidence in the journalists and public.  On the occasion, the PCP chairman said that all-out efforts would be made to address the issues facing journalist community and general public.
He expressed the hope that coordination between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the PCP would further help resolve the issues faced by the journalists.
Earlier, the senior officers gave a detailed briefing to the Federal Secretary about the PCP’s performance.
