NCHR expresses solidarity with slain Policeman guarding Sikh shopkeeper

PESHAWAR, Apr 24 (APP):National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) KP stands in solidarity with police personnel who was killed while protecting a Sikh shopkeeper.
In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, National Commission for Human Rights Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Commissioner, Tariq Javed strongly condemned the incident and demanded that the culprits be brought to justice.
The NCHR/KP also called for an increase in security for the Sikh community and other minorities. The Commission expressed sympathy and support for the police personnel and their families.
On duty, Constable Farhad Khandid not survive the attack. The matter is being investigated by the police.
The NCHR/KP also requested that the constable be declared a ‘martyr’.

Dist admin conducts awareness seminar on Punjab CM Bike scheme at BZU

MULTAN, Apr 24 (APP):District administration organized an awareness seminar regarding Punjab Chief Minister’s Bike scheme at Bahauddin Zakariya University here on Wednesday.
The seminar was held under supervision of Secretary RTA Mohsin Nisar while provincial minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan and Secretary Transport Ahmad Javed Qazi addressed via video link.
The students were given detailed briefing on bikes provision and it’s advantages. The road show was also conducted by the motorcycle companies.
Provincial Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan said that the last date to apply was April 29. The road shows and branding was being made regarding awareness about the project.
Secretary Transport Ahmad Javed Qazi said that the provision of bikes among students will reduce road accidents and would help to improve environment.
As many as 20,000 motorbikes including 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 E-bikes would be provided to students across the province through balloting draw.

CM KP holds first meeting of tourism dept, vows to promote tourism sector

PESHAWAR, Apr 24 (APP):Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur Wednesday presided over the first meeting of the Department of Tourism and set new targets to develop the tourism sector in the province on modern lines.
The Chief Minister was briefed about the working administrative affairs of the tourism department and development projects and future action plans so far initiated for the promotion of the tourism sector in the province.
He was also briefed about the Integrated Tourism Zones to be established in Malakand and Hazara Divisions.
The Chief Minister has set new targets to develop the tourism sector in the province on modern lines so as to attract both local and international tourists to visit scenic places.
The Chief Minister has asked for a plan to promote the tourism sector as an industry and directed the concerned quarters to take up measures to attract domestic and foreign investment in the tourism sector.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sufficient potential for tourism, it should be utilized to the maximum extent, the Chief Minister said while instructing the officials of the Tourism department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Chief Minister directed the officials in the meeting that they should prepare a plan for the promotion of eco-tourism in the province.
Alternative markets should be established at crowded tourist spots and car parking areas should be included as a mandatory component in the planning of newly established tourist spots, Ali Amin Gandapur said.
Steps should be taken to provide all the facilities needed by the tourists at the tourist spots, Chief Minister Ali Amin said. He said a sustainable system should be developed for drinking water supply and sewage in tourist places.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said that steps should be taken to establish rest areas and mosques on roads leading to tourist spots.
The Chief Minister also asked for a plan for the effective use of properties owned by the Tourism Department.
With the effective use of these properties, along with providing facilities to the tourists, the province can also get sufficient income, said the Chief Minister.
He also directed classification of leases of these properties.
Local people should be given first priority in investment in tourist places, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said. The work on the establishment of integrated tourism zones in Hazara and Malakand divisions should be accelerated, Ali Amin Gandapur said.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Apr 24 (APP):Shipping activity was report at the port where three ships namely, Xpress Salween, Maersk Detroit and Lokojo carrying Container and LNG, berthed at Container Terminal and Gasport Terminal respectively on Tuesday.
Meanwhile four more ships, MSC Sindy, Mara Thapolis, Lila Ace and Loxley with Containers, Chemicals and LPG also arrived at outer-anchorage of the Port Qasim on today morning.
A total of seven ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them three ships, X-Press Salween, MSC Rikku and Navigator Vega left the Port on today morning while three more ships, Maersk Detroit, Khairpur and Marathapolis are expected to sail on today afternoon.
A cargo volume of 162,939 tonnes, comprising 115,152 tonnes imports cargo and 47,787 tonnes export cargo carried in 4,717 Containers (2,006 TEUs Imports and 2,711 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
There are 07 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them five ships,Hansa Oslo, Bateleur, Limra, Marathapolis and MSC Sindy& four more ships, San-Francisco Bridge, Atlantic, Sea-Pearl and Asia Liberty carrying Gas oil, LPG, Container, Fertilizer and Palm oil are expected to take berths at FOTCO, EVTL, SSGC, QICT, FAP and LCT on today 24thApril, while another containers ship, Sea-Span Beacon is due arrive at Port Qasim on Thursday.

EPA organize interactive World Environment Day

RAWALPINDI, Apr 24 (APP):Environment Protection Agency organized an awareness interactive session with students regarding World Earth Day celebration. The session was aimed to educate students about the need for environmental protection.
During the session themed “Plastic vs Earth,” speakers shed light on prevailing environmental issues, causes and their effects on life.
Deputy Director Environment Protection Agency, Maria Safeer in her address emphasized the individual responsibility to opt for cloth bags over plastic ones and to choose steel or other environmentally friendly alternatives for food consumption.
She informed that a comprehensive ban has been imposed by the government not only on the sale of plastic bags less than 75 microns but also on various plastic items, including disposables and multi-layer packaging plastic products, under Punjab Single-Use Plastic Products Regulation 2023.
Students were informed that all plastic manufacturers, collectors, and recyclers throughout the province were mandated to register with the Punjab Environment Protection and Climate Change Department to ensure accountability and regulation.
Under the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a complete ban on the use of all types of plastic bags and polythene bags will be enforced on June 05 this year, she said.
Besides students, the session was attended by EPA Officials, civil society reps and others.

Agricultural experts stress for timely sowing of cotton

BOREWALA, Apr 24 (APP):Department of Agriculture Extension arranged a ‘mega farmers gathering’ at Gago Mandi here to convince growers to cultivate more cotton in their fields.
Assistant Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Shahid while addressing the gathering, informed the participants about the benefits of more cotton sowing in the fields. He urged farmers to cultivate cotton in the maximum area this year, stressing that timely sowing of cotton would yield the best result.
The Agriculture Officer, Rana Tariq Hussain informed farmers about the subsidized agricultural program offered by the provincial government under its Smog Control Programme. He encouraged farmers to take advantage of the subsidies to enhance their farming practices.
A large number of farmers along with chief guest, Khalid Mahmood Dogar, Chaudhry Khabib Yunus and others participated in the event.
Agriculture Officer Gago Mandi, Mohammad Mohsin Riaz also delivered a lecture on modern cotton production technology.
