Pakistan earns $1,976 million from IT services’ export in 8 months

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Pakistan earned US $1,976.911 million by providing different Information Technology (IT) services to various countries during the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2023-24.

This shows a growth of 14.94 per cent as compared with the US $1,719.939 million earned through the provision of services during the corresponding months of the last fiscal year 2022-23, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

During the months under review, the export of computer services grew by 16.28 per cent as it surged from US $1,389.559 million last year to US $1,615.761 million during July-February 2023-24.

Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed an increase of 36.04 per cent, from US $3.685 million to US $5.013 million this year while the export of hardware consultancy services also surged by 6.46 per cent, from US $511.176 million to US $544.211 million.

The export of repair and maintenance services however decreased by 32.15 per cent from US $2.134 million to US $1.448 million whereas the export and imports of computer software services surged by 2.46 per cent, from $397.569 million to $407.339 million.

Meanwhile, the export of information services during the months under review witnessed a nominal increase of 1.38 per cent from US $2.900 million to US $2.940 million.

Among the information services, the exports of information-related services increased by 2.21 per cent, from US $0.904 million to US $0.924 million whereas the exports of news agency services also surged by 01 per cent, from US $1.996 million to US $2.016 million.

The export of telecommunication services increased by 9.38 per cent as these went up from US $327.480 million to US $358.210 million, the data revealed.

Among the telecommunication services, the export of call centres services increased by 21.05 per cent during the months as its exports increased from US $137.535 million to US $166.485 million whereas the export of other telecommunication services witnessed an increase of 0.94 per cent, from US $189.945 million to US $191.725 million during this year, the PBS data revealed.

Chinese defense minister to attend SCO meeting in Kazakhstan

BEIJING, April 25 (APP): Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun will attend the meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, from Wednesday to Friday.

Dong will also pay a visit to the country during this period, said China’s Ministry of Defense. During the meeting, Dong will deliver a speech and engage in discussions with delegation heads from relevant nations on topics encompassing global and regional affairs, as well as defence and security collaboration.

In addition, while visiting Kazakhstan, Dong will participate in meetings and dialogues with officials from the Kazakh government and defence sectors.

China-Bangladesh to hold joint military exercise in May

BEIJING, April 25 (APP): The first China-Bangladesh golden friendship 2024 joint military exercise will be held in the first half of May, Chinese Defence Ministry Spokesperson, Col. Wu Qian announced here on Thursday.

According to the consensus between the two militaries, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will send a team to Bangladesh in the first half of May to hold a joint military exercise codenamed China Bangladesh golden friendship 2024 joint army exercise, he made this announcement during his monthly briefing.

He said the joint exercise takes the UN peacekeeping force counter-terrorism operations as the scenario. The two militaries will conduct joint training in mixed groups on subjects including anti-hijacking and terrorist camp elimination, he added.

Col Wu Qian informed that it is the first time the Chinese and Bangladesh militaries will conduct joint training to enhance mutual understanding and friendship and deepen practical exchanges and cooperation.

Meta delegation calls on Shaza Fatima

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): A two-member delegation of Meta called on Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja in her office on Thursday.

The delegation comprised Dania Mukhtar, Head of Public Policy for Pakistan at Meta and Taabeer Ather, Manager Public Policy for Pakistan.
The meeting discussed in details responsible use of social media platforms, said a news release.

The delegation briefed Minister of State for IT about Meta working and different campaigns in Pakistan including Digital Safety Campaign, Election Education Campaign, Anti-Scams Campaign and Digital Literacy Program.

Minister of State for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja appreciated the working of Meta and ensured her full support to the company.

Wafaqi Mohtasib team directs ETO to provide one-window facility, launch awareness campaign

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): An Inspection Team from the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s Office on Thursday visited the Excise and Taxation Office, Islamabad under the directions of the Federal Ombudsman, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, with a view to ascertaining the difficulties being faced by the general public with regard to registration of vehicles.
Headed by a senior advisor, the inspection team met with the people there and listened to their complaints for prompt redressal.
The inspection team had submitted its report to the Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman), who directed that a one window facilitation desk might be established therein to provide all facilities to the public under one roof.
The team was informed by the ETO Office that facilities relating to registration of the vehicles, transfer of registration and payment of token tax etc were currently available Online. Moreover, the ETO Office is also providing such facilities at the residence of the applicants by payment of a nominal fee of Rs. 1900.
It further informed that the mobile teams from the ETO Office are also providing the registration facilities to the general public at the public parks and other public places daily after 4 pm.
Commending the provision of facilities, the Wafaqi Mohtasib directed the ETO Office to launch an awareness campaign in this regard for the benefit of the common man.
During the visit, some of the petitioners informed the inspection team that the agent mafia active there, was charging Rs 200 for providing one registration form, whereas, Rs 50 were being charged for making a single photo copy. The fact of the matter, they say, is that the registration form for vehicles should be made available for free and the official rate for photocopy i.e. Rs. 5 and Rs.10 respectively, be enforced.
The inspection team instructed the administration to prominently display the respective requirements for registration, transfer and submission of token tax of the vehicles on the sign boards in English and Urdu, apart from providing the relevant information regarding online registration.

Pakistan delegation arrives in Shahrisabz to participate in ECO Tourism Capital for 2024

SHAHRISABZ (Uzbekistan),, Apr 25 (APP): Pakistani Delegation of tourism experts, prominent artists, painters, media-persons, and traditional culinary expert, on Thursday arrived in Uzbekistan to be part of the celebration of ‘Shahrisabz – ECO Tourism Capital for 2024’ from April 25- 27.

The Pakistan delegation, under the initiative of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has embarked on Cultural Journey to Uzbekistan for “Shahrisabz – ECO Tourism Capital for 2024”.

It is led by Salman Javed, Senior Board Member of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Convener of the Tourism Committee in FPCCI. It will participate in a series of events including a cooking competition, modest fashion show, and the International Folk Festival, all part of the festivities in “Shahrisabz – ECO Tourism Capital for 2024”.

The inauguration of Shahrisabz as the “Tourism Capital” of ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) includes a wide array of events such as the ECO Tourism Forum, nomad games, gastronomy competitions, and other cultural showcases aimed at highlighting the rich culture and heritage of ECO countries while fostering cooperation in the field of tourism among member states.

Highlighting the main features, the spokesperson of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) stated that the Pakistani delegation would focus on ECO Region Tourism cooperation for the strengthening of people-to-people contact and cultural exchange between the participating countries.

Among the participants from ECO Member States, designers will showcase creativity skills in the “Modest Fashion Show”, while chefs, specializing in national dishes and desserts, will compete in the “Shahrisabz Cooking Competition”.

Additionally, ethno-sports athletes and folk artists from various countries will take part in the first International Nomad Games and the “International Folk Festival” of the ECO region respectively.

The official opening ceremony of the “Shahrisabz 2024 – ECO Tourism Capital” events is scheduled to take place today, in the Historical Center of Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan. All competition events have been organized in the form of festivals or exhibitions to strengthen friendships between member states and promote cross-cultural understanding.

From March 27 to April 6, the plein-air artists visited the historic cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Shahrisabz, capturing the essence of Uzbekistan’s rich heritage through their masterpieces.

This initiative has brought together artists from Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, who through their artistry, weaved together the tapestry of historical narratives and contemporary landscapes, reflecting the enduring allure of Uzbekistan’s ancient cities.

CM addresses passing-out ceremony of lady constables in Lahore

LAHORE, Apr 25 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif appreciated women on Thursday as they work like superhumans as mothers, daughters, sisters and professionals.
Addressing the passing-out ceremony of lady constables at Police Training College Chung, she said: “Women are very hard working and they are an asset to society.”  Maryam said, “The passing out lady constables are very active and alert. I am happy to see that Pakistan has been blessed with so much talent. No one can imagine how hard women work; I salute all for their dedication and commitment to work.”
The chief minister said, “I am happy that this time the police gave sword of honor to a young woman. My sisters, daughters! I am proud of you all.” She added, “The training of lady police constables has been conducted in line with the International best practices and modern requirements. It was a pleasure, indeed, to see the professionalism of lady police constables undergoing training.” She said, “If you need any kind of help for training at college, let me know. I am always there to facilitate you.”
Maryam Nawaz said, “I have directed the IGP Punjab to increase the number of lady police officers, as 7,000 women police officers are not enough.” She said, “Time will come when the number of lady police will surpass 50 per cent.”
The chief minister said, “After wearing the police uniform for the first time, I have realised that being a police officer or being sworn in as a CM is a very responsible job.” She added, “In the Chief Minister’s office, we take decisions, and you get them implemented, you have a heavy responsibility.” She explained, “Women are soft-hearted and quick to forgive, but lady police constables! you have to do justice only. All your sympathies should be with the oppressed; there should be no place in your hearts for the oppressors. The oppressor must be punished.” She added, “I don’t feel revenge in my heart, it hurts while punishing the wrongdoer even.” She highlighted, “In a society where there is no justice, society is destroyed. Therefore, take care of the oppressed and do justice.”
CM Maryam Nawaz congratulated the passing out lady police constables and their families, and said, “Your daughters will make you proud.” She added, “I feel pleasure when my father’s face brightens after listening to my daylong activities of the public service.” The CM explained, “I have to prove myself to reach this position; I have waded through a river full of fire.”
CM Maryam Nawaz greeted all parents, and asked them, ”Trust and support your daughters; they will make you proud.” She said, “I would like to pay tribute to Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif because wherever we see development in the country, only their names come into one’s mind.” She added, “I have a heavy responsibility to carry forward the development legacy of Nawaz Sharif’s era.”
