Lahore-Paris rally to highlight the positive image of Pakistan; Rana Mashhood

ISLAMABAD, Apr 26 (APP): Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme,(PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan on Friday said that the Lahore Paris Rally would play a vital role in highlighting the positive image of Pakistan.
He said this while reviewing the arrangements of the Lahore-Paris rally 2024 during a meeting with the Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism and Development Corporation (PTDC) and the organizers of the rally.
The main objective of the meeting was to devise a strategy for the event’s success. At the same time, security arrangements, logistics support and cooperation with international partners were discussed in detail in the meeting.
The Lahore- Paris rally, which will begin on August 26, will travel through 12 countries from Pakistan to France and will pass through major countries like Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
On the occasion, Ana Mashhood said that the government was committed to increasing tourism and making it a safe and attractive tourist destination,adding the government will ensure safety measures for all participants including women and children and will provide resources at the government level for the rally.
“Through this rally, not only cultural ties will be strengthened but friendly relations between different countries will also be developed”, he added.
The organizers of the rally appreciated the chairman’s vision and support for making this grand journey possible.

SCCI for simplifying procedure to enhance arms, ammunition export

PESHAWAR, Apr 26 (APP): President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Fuad Ishaq has stressed simplifying procedures and processing systems to enhance business and export of arms and ammunition from Pakistan.
He was talking to Deputy Director General Defense Export Production Organization (DEPO) Commodore Aitizaz Khalid here at SSCI on Friday. He also demanded a state-of-the-art laboratory for checking the quality and standard of the arms and ammunition.
Speaking on the occasion, Aitizaz Khalid apprised participants about the main objectives and functions of DEPO and invited President SCCI to participate in the upcoming International Defense Exhibition and Seminar 2024 (IDEAS-2024) in Karachi.
Fuad Ishaq informed that the chamber has started efforts for early completion of the Expo Centre Project which is aimed to promote locally manufactured products and enhance export from KP.
Earlier, the business community attached to the arms and ammunition sector pointed to hurdles and issues hampering exports on which DEPO officials assured to take up issues with the Ministry of Defence Production.

Coca-Cola invests an additional $22 million in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Apr 26 (APP): Coca-Cola has invested $22 million in the beverage sector, specifically in technology upgrades, capacity enhancement of its export potential, and employment for over half a million local professionals along its chain.
This new investment is in addition to the $1 billion invested in the country by the Coca-Cola System since 2008, said a news release issued here on Friday.
To discuss future investments in Special Economic Zones, Iain McLaughlin, President Global Commercial Product Supply, The Coca-Cola Company, met with the Secretary Punjab Board of Investment Ehsan Bhutta.
McLaughlin reassured the Punjab government of the company’s commitment to the nation’s growth potential.
Secretary Bhutta praised Coca-Cola as an investment success story, highlighting the private sector growth potential in the country. In April, the Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif also presented Coca-Cola with the highest taxpayer appreciation award.

Federal Ombudsman KP Office decides to extend awareness campaign to educational institutions

PESHAWAR, Apr 26 (APP): Federal Ombudsman Regional Office has decided to extend awareness campaign to educational institutions of Peshawar to appraise students about its functions and responsibilities in dispensation of cost-free and speedy justice.

Badshah Gul Wazir, In-charge Adviser Federal Ombudsman Regional Office Peshawar told APP during an interview here Friday that the awareness campaign was extended to educational institutions of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

He said that next week, a grand awareness function would be held at Islamia College Peshawar where students would be informed about the role, functions and responsibilities of the Federal Ombudsman Office in dispensation of quick and free justice to complainants.

Badshah Gul said that 10,386 complaints were disposed of against 10,389 complaints received against alleged mal-practices of Federal Government’s departments last year.

In 2023, he said that 10,389 complaints were filed out of which 10,386 complaints were disposed of swiftly.

Besides 7,047 implementable findings, he said that his office has taken quick action on complaints filed against alleged malpractices of federal government’s organizations and has successfully implemented 5,201 findings with over 73.8 percent success ratio.

Federal Ombudsman Office was established on January 24, 1983 and later its regional office in Khyber Pakthunkhwa (then NWFP) was setup in 1985.

To provide prompt justice to masses at their doorsteps, he said that later its regional offices were established at Peshawar, DI Khan and Abbottabad besides complaints collection centres at Wana South Waziristan and Sadda Kurram tribal districts.

Peshawar’s office was mandated to decide complaints received from Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram and Orakzai divisions and that any person having grievances against any Govt department can submit a simple application either personally or online along with CNICs, mobile numbers, address and name of the department, adding spot orders on some applications were also issued.

The complaints filed against alleged irregularities and mismanagement of public sector departments are being addressed within 60 days and our findings are also being shared with the Federal Ombudsman Office, Islamabad.

Federal Ombudsman Office’s July -September 2023 report revealed that an application had been received by Federal Ombudsman Regional Office Abbottabad in which a complainant Muhammad Farooq Awan from Mansehra pleaded that his residential electric meter removed by PESCO and levied Rs 65,000 penalty without any legal ground.

After hearing the case, the Wafaqi Mohtasib Office decided to waive off this illegitimate penalty amount. PESCO has challenged the decision to the President. However, the President upheld the decision of Wafaqi Mohtasib.

Badshah Gul Wazir said the confidence of masses on the Federal Ombudsman Office has been increased after the online facility, adding that his door was open for all.

NHA’s flood-damaged portion’s repair to be completed by Dec 2024: Aleem

ISLAMABAD, April 26 (APP): Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan Friday informed the National Assembly that the restoration of the old national highway, damaged by floods, is scheduled to be finished by December 2024.
Replying to a calling attention notice in the House, he said that an amount of Rs 500 million has been approved in the financial year 2023-24, for repair of flood-damaged highways.
The minister assured the House that work on the highways would commence during this month and expressed the hope that it will be completed by end of this year.
Aleem Khan pledged personal oversight in addressing Sindh’s issues, prioritizing projects like the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway and the Babusar Top Tunnel which is a game changer project for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Earlier, a newly elected Member of National Assembly (MNA) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the by-poll from Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Faisal Amin Khan on Friday took oath as a MNA. Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah administered the oath to the newly elected MNA who later signed the registration roll.

Lahore police conducted 1,213 search & combing operations this year

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): Lahore police conducted 1,213 search and combing operations so far this year to ensure peace and security.
The Lahore police spokesperson said on Friday that during these search operations, 33,047 houses, 16,121 tenants, and 115,522 individuals were checked. Under the Tenancy Act, actions have been taken against 286 individuals.
During the operations, 85 proclaimed offenders were apprehended, 21 drug cases registered, and 44 individuals taken into custody under the 55/109 CrPC. The spokesperson further mentioned that 52 cases of illegal weapons and 9 of gambling had also been registered. The record of individuals was checked at 30 hotels, 74 hostels, 65 factories, and 1,837 shops during the search operations.
Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that the series of search and combing operations are ongoing. He directed police teams to increase patrolling in sensitive areas and supervise officers to oversee the operations. The CCPO added that search operations will be conducted around cricket stadiums and residential areas of international cricketers on a daily basis. He issued directions to curb gambling, illegal weapons, street crime and apprehend individuals involved in committing crimes in accordance with the zero-tolerance policy.
