Secretary health urges public to follow precautionary measures to avoid spreading dengue

PESHAWAR, April 26 (APP): Secretary Health of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Mahmood Aslam during the sermon of Friday prayers at Gul Bahar Number One area, conducted an awareness campaign and appealed the locals to follow precautionary measures to avoid dengue in their living localities.
He urged the general public to ensure disposal of wastage and covering of stagnant water inside and outside of their homes, to protect themselves and residents of the area from dengue.
Pamphlets regarding dengue awareness were also distributed among the public by health department officials including those from Civil Defense and WSSP.
He, along with District Health Officer Dr. Idris, Focal Person for Dengue Dr Ikramullah and officials of Civil Defense, WSSP, and relevant authorities also led a Dengue Awareness walk in Gul Bahar area.
He personally visited various streets in Gul Bahar, and distributed awareness pamphlets to shopkeepers and locals, besides issuing instructions regarding dengue prevention.
He also praised the efforts of the Civil Defense officials for spreading awareness among the people through different means of sources.
Secretary Health issued directives to relevant authorities on this occasion, instructing them to report the progress of dengue prevention activities on a regular basis.

LESCO collects over Rs 4.36m from 189 defaulters in 24 hours

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) recovered more than Rs 4.36 million from 189 dead defaulters in all the five districts- Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara- on the 207th day of its recovery campaign.
LESCO spokesman told the media here Friday that on the 207th day, SE (Superintending Engineer) Nisar Sarwar has recovered outstanding dues of Rs 0.65 million from 26 defaulters in Northern Circle; SE Umar Bilal recovered Rs 0.92 million from  64 defaulters in Eastern Circle;  SE Shabbir recovered Rs 0.75 million from 47 defaulters in Central Circle; SE Zafarullah Saanghi collected Rs 0.08 million from 07 defaulters in South Circle; SE Muhammad Hussain recovered Rs 0.28 million from 11 defaulters in Nankana Circle; SE Najamul Hassan recovered Rs 0.64 million from 09 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; SE Jamshed Zaman collected Rs 0.40 million from 12 defaulters in Okara Circle and SE Ahmed Shahzad Chughtai recovered Rs 0.64 million from 13 defaulters in Kasur Circle.
During the 207 days, the spokesman added that the LESCO has recovered a total of Rs 2.897 billion outstanding dues from 100,883 dead defaulters. He elaborated that uptill now the company has collected Rs 427.74 million from 14,659 defaulters in Northern Circle; Rs 680.70 million from 13,137 defaulters in Eastern Circle; Rs 383.45 million from 11,337 defaulters in Central Circle; Rs 159.63 million from 5,927 defaulters in South Circle; Rs 233.73 million from 8,724 defaulters in Nankana Circle; Rs 425.57 million from 11,769 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; Rs 187.86 million from 16,101 defaulters in Okara Circle and Rs 398.93 million from 19,229 defaulters in Kasur Circle.

CM’s aide directs steps to prevent domestic violence against women

PESHAWAR, Apr 26 (APP): Advisor to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Mashal Azam Yousafzai has directed the social welfare department to take steps to prevent women from domestic violence and shift the shelter home of district Khyber to an appropriate place in Landikotal.
She issued these directives during her visit to the Directorate of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment here on Friday.
She directed steps to prevent domestic violence and provide free legal help to women victims of domestic violence. CM’s advisor also sought a report about the working of non-governmental organizations and directed them to stop further cooperation with those that are non-functional.
She highlighted the priorities of the government to help drug addicts and said that a grand operation would be started very soon for their rehabilitation. She said that a helpline would be launched to provide help to women facing domestic violence.
On the occasion, the CM’s aide was also briefed about the performance of the Child Protection Unit and ongoing projects of the social welfare department in merged areas.
She was told that work on PC I to establish five drug addict rehabilitation centers in merged districts has started. She was informed that rehabilitation centers would be constructed after approval of the provincial cabinet with an estimated cost of Rs 367 million.

300 raids conducted on hideous of drug-dealers

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): On the directions of chief minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police are actively pursuing the crackdown throughout the province to eradicate the menace of drugs, in connection with the Drug Free Punjab campaign under the chairmanship of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar.
Punjab Police spokesman said that during the last 24 hours, 300 raids were conducted across the province including Lahore on the hideouts of drug dealers and 128 accused were arrested while registering 125 cases against the accused involved in the heinous crime. 55 kg of charas, 01 kg of heroin, 675 grams of Ice and 1251 liters of liquor have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
Similarly 17,551 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug suspects throughout the province during the special campaign since February 26, 8759 accused were arrested while registering 8267 cases against the drug dealers. 5552 kg of charas, 99 kg of heroin, 216 kg of opium, 28 kg of Ice and 109434 liters of alcohol have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
He directed to make the crackdown more effective to keep the young generation safe from drugs. He said that intelligence-based targeted operations should be conducted on a daily basis in drug hotspot areas. IG Punjab entrusted the supervisory officers with the task of bringing all the accused involved in the drug network and supply chain and brought them to justice.
IG Punjab said that a more active strategy, awareness campaign against drugs should be continued with the cooperation of civil society, teachers and parents.

PML-N to become more strong under Nawaz Sharif: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP):The PML-N Punjab on Friday requested the party Quaid Nawaz Sharif to take charge of the party’s president office once again.
Addressing a press conference here, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that today a resolution was passed during the PML-N Punjab organizational meeting. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif was declared disqualified in 2017 as a result of a conspiracy and he was forcefully deprived of party’s presidentship. He said that agenda of the meeting was to get feedback on condition after 2024 general elections.
He said that participants in the meeting expressed hope that party would further be strengthened under the able leadership of PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif. Organizational office-bearers had given applicable proposals with regard to political situation, he said and added that these proposals would be presented in front of party’s leadership.
The PML-N leader said that today’s meeting backed the steps of federal government and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aimed at steering the country out of existing challenges. He further said that party was standing with centre and Punjab government. Rana Sanaullah said that whenever his party got a chance it had left no stone unturned to put country on road to progress. He said that PML-N was a democratic party and believed in strengthening of democracy adding that his party would move forward under able leadership of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Bugti issues directives to operate circular road parking plaza

QUETTA, April 26 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti on Friday said that government has formulated a comprehensive plan to operate the ‘Circular Road Parking Plaza’ on public private partnership model to utilize resources and generate more revenue which would be spent on the development of the city.
The CM stated this while talking to media persons during visit to Circular Road Parking Plaza. Sarfraz Bugti said, he has directed the Administrator Quetta Metropolitan Corporation Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat to make the seventh floor parking plaza operational established at Circular road area.
He said that last month, around one million rupees had been generated from this plaza.  Sarfraz Bugti said through public private partnership model, a hotel would also be established on the top floor of the parking plaza and a lift would be installed there on urgent basis.
The CM said that Executive Engineer (Xen) has been suspended over the charges of incompletion noted in the construction works of parking plaza and that the person should face inquiry in this regard.
He said that government would also establish parking plaza at available space of old meat market aimed to overcome roadside problems and provide safe parking places to the commuters.
Sarfraz Bugti said that lifter would be provided to traffic police on the same public private partnership model as there is a single lifter with police in Quetta.
He said that efforts would be made to improve the condition of Baldia plaza and directed to revise its rent agreements as the QMC is collecting rent on monthly basis.
Chief Minister said that Kandhari Bazar, Jinnah Road and encircling roads would be declared as walking streets.
Sarfraz Bugti stressed the measures to improve traffic, drainage and sewerage system in Quetta city.He said steps are being taken to beauty the city environment after resolving public issues.
Expressing his regret over occupants of the government-leased properties, he said that rent of Baldia cafe has not been paid during last seven month, which must be submitted to concern office.

Punjab Police cricket honored with shields, medals & CCI certificates

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP):The Punjab Police Sports Branch arranged a reward ceremony in honour of Punjab Police Cricket Team at Central Police Office, in which the police cricket team players, coach and match officials specially participated.
Director General Police Sports Board Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara, Patron Cricket Discipline Additional IG IAB Imran Mehmood and Chief Sports Officer RPO Sheikhupura Athar Ismail Amjad were also present in the event.
Patron Cricket Discipline Additional IG IAB Imran Mehmood congratulated the police cricket team for their excellent performance. He said that Punjab Police Cricket Team recently won the title of Sher-e-Sultan T-20 Cricket tournament held in Faisalabad.
Police cricket team also won the cricket series against Punjab University, LESCO, Lahore Qalandars High Performance Overseas Players, police cricket team remained runner-up in several tournaments, won other awards and overall performed very well during last year.
Director General Police Sports Board Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara awarded medals and shields to the players and officials with excellent performance in various categories in the ceremony.
Police cricket team captain Mohammad Shoaib was awarded the best leader shield, coach Mohammad Nadeem was awarded the shield of the best coach, Rizwan Kandyal was awarded the best batsman shield, Umar was awarded the best bowler shield, and Adnan was awarded the shield of the best fielder.
The Emerging Player award was given to Irfan while all the other players of the cricket team were encouraged with medals and CC One certificates. Director General Police Sports Board Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara said that steps have been taken to patronage the sports in Punjab Police, construction of a sports complex for the players is also under consideration, while measures will continue for the best training facilities.

LESCO detects 74,621 power pilferers in 220 days

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) detected a total of 74,621 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara) in 220 days of grand anti-power theft campaign.
The LESCO spokesman told the media here Thursday that the company has also submitted FIR applications against electricity thieves, out of which 71,165 FIRs have been registered in respective police stations, while 30,015 accused have been arrested. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 90,277,640 detection units worth Rs 3,361,854,942 to all the power pilferers.
Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves are being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider is supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that the operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them are also being brought to justice.
The spokesman added, the LESCO found 313 customers stealing electricity through various means and 124 cases have been registered against the accused, while five accused were arrested during the last 24 hours.
On the 220th consecutive day of the anti-power theft campaign, he mentioned that large commercial consumers were found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized connections, he explained, 07 were commercial, 02 agricultural, 01 industrial and 303 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 316,062 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 6.621 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he mentioned that LESCO charged Rs 300,000 detection  bill to an electricity pilferer in Kahna area; Rs 170,000 detection bill to a power pilferer in Garhi Shahu area; Rs 162,000 fine in the form of detection bill to a customer stealing electricity in Shahdara Town, and Rs 150,000 to another power pilferer also in Old Anarkali area.

WB director, Planning minister discuss reforms in development projects

ISLAMABAD, Apr 26 (APP): World Bank’s (WB) Global Director for Governance Arturo Herrera Gutierrez on Friday called on Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal and discussed reforms aimed at improving development projects.

During the meeting, the minister apprised the WB official that the incumbent government was taking all possible steps to modernize the completion stages of development, utilizing modern technology and methods to ensure better results.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government had made all project details available online to ensure transparency, highlighting importance of effective monitoring and performance evaluation systems to attract more and more investment in the country. “A geographic information system has been established to track project progress.”

Ahsan Iqbal said experts from all sectors had been invited to join the government’s efforts to bring about positive change, adding relevant experts were involved in the project review process. “This has resulted in significant progress towards achieving project goals and timelines.”

Despite challenges in funding and resource allocation, the Planning minister said Pakistan had managed to save Rs 7 billion from 2013 to 2018 through effective monitoring and resource utilization.

Ahsan Iqbal said the Planning ministry had been granted autonomous status since 2013, allowing it to function as a think tank and prioritize development projects.

He said the development budget had been increased threefold since 2013, demonstrating the government’s commitment to progress.

Ambassador Jemal inaugurates Ethio-Pakistan Unity Enclave at FCCI to celebrate Green Legacy Initiative

FAISALABAD, Apr 26 (APP): Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula on Friday inaugurated Ethio-Pakistan Unity Enclave at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).

The FCCI set up the enclave at its vicinity to celebrate the Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Under Green Legacy Initiative launched by the chamber in collaboration with the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad.

Ambassador Jemal and FCCI President Dr Khurram Tariq launched the initiative by planting saplings of indigenous species at the enclave.

A large number of people from all walks of life including business and religious community, academia, students, civil society and media took part in the plantation campaign under the Green Legacy initiative of Dr Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Jemal lauded the FCCI leadership and all those who had contributed to the historic initiative of the Ethiopian Embassy that was aimed at fostering fraternity and brotherhood between the two countries through the Green Legacy Initiative.

He said it was imperative for both Ethiopia and Pakistan to share their experiences, knowledge and expertise to fight the looming threat of climate change together.

The ambassador recalled the devastation unleashed by the flash floods in Pakistan in 2022 that he had personally witnessed during his visit to the tent cities of Sindh.

Highlighting importance of the Green Legacy Initiative, he said the visionary leader of Ethiopian PM Dr Abiy Ahmed worked out a home grown solution to the climate change under his Medemer philosophy that advocated for alignment of all resources to resolve home grown problems.

He said the Ethiopian Prime Minister had been mobilizing the whole nation under the Green Legacy Initiative since 2019 and so far, more than 32.5 billion seedlings were planted across the country in the last five years which included saplings of fruits like avocado, papaya, banana, oranges, olives and many others.

Likewise, coffee, animal feed and floral plants were also planted taking “us closer to our target of 50 billion seedlings until 2025”, he added.

In addition to that, he said, more than 150,000 nurseries were set up in the country as well as over a million jobs created through the Green Legacy Initiative.

FCCI President Dr Khurram expressed gratitude to Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula for introducing the Green Legacy Initiative in Pakistan.

He said history had been made with the launch of Ethio-Pakistan Unity Enclave at the FCCI Sustainability Park which reflected growing relations between the two countries.
