Saudi envoy commemorates King Salman’s historic visit to Pakistan with memorial photos

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Saudi Press Attaché Dr Naif Al-Otaibi on Saturday commemorated the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud’s historic visit to Pakistan on April 27, 1998 by sharing memorial photos of the monarch during his time as the Governor of Riyadh.

Taking to his social media account ‘X’, he said King Salman’s visit to Pakistan came in response to an invitation from the Government of Pakistan and left a lasting impression on both nations.

During his visit, Dr. Naif said King Salman graced the city of Murree with his presence, attending a party hosted in his honor. He said King Salman’s itinerary also included a visit to the iconic King Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, where he penned a heartfelt message in the mosque’s visitors’ book.

In his inscription, Dr. Naif said King Salman expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to visit the revered mosque, dedicated to the memory of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, invoking blessings upon him.

He said King Salman lauded the late King Faisal’s efforts in constructing the Islamic landmark in the capital city of Islamabad, emphasizing its significance to Pakistan and the broader Islamic world.

Dr. Naif said King Salman’s visit underscored the strong ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, reaffirming the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

He said King Salman’s memorable visit continues to be cherished, serving as a testament to the enduring relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

1320 MW power to be added to National Grid from Thar Coal project: Energy Minister

KARACHI, Apr 27 (APP): Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Saturday said 1320 Megawatts electricity will be added to the National Grid after the completion of the first phase of the Thar Coal project.
He expressed these views in a meeting held at the office of Sindh Energy Department.
The CEO of Shanghai Power Meng Donghai and CEO-SSRC Jain while Secretary Energy Sindh Kazim Jatoi and other senior officers of Energy Department were also present. The minister said the 2300 Megawatts Thar Coal Block-I Power Generation Project will play an important role in meeting the energy requirements.
Nasir Shah assured the delegation of immediate removal of all obstacles in the project. He said that Sindh government will provide all possible cooperation regards project so that the it could be completed as soon as possible.
He directed the delegation to take special care of the local people in the project and provide them with all possible facilities. He added that Thar Coal Project was very important for the whole country including Sindh.
Nasir Shah said that according to the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh government was focusing on public welfare projects like solarization or energy projects in the province.
He said on the direction of Bilawal Bhutto, work is being done rapidly in all sectors.

Terrorist attempting to stop passenger vehicle killed, other injured by security forces in Harnai

RAWALPINDI, Apr 27 (APP): The Security Forces on Saturday killed a terrorist and injured the other during a fire exchange that took place between the forces and terrorists in Harnai District of Balochistan.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release, the terrorists tried to stop passenger vehicles plying on Sanjavi Road, Harnai, whereas the Security Forces reacted immediately and effectively engaged the terrorists.

The timely response by the security forces thwarted nefarious intent of the terrorists, saving innocent lives, it added.

“Sanitization operation is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.

Security forces of Pakistan, in step with the Nation, remain determined to thwart attempts of sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan, the ISPR said.

LESCO collects over Rs 4.76m from 230 defaulters in 24 hours

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) recovered more than Rs 4.76 million from 230 chronic defaulters in all the five districts- Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara- on the 208th day of its recovery campaign.
A LESCO spokesman told the media here on Saturday that on the 208th day, SE (Superintending Engineer) Nisar Sarwar has recovered outstanding dues of Rs 0.82 million from 26 defaulters in Northern Circle; SE Umar Bilal recovered Rs 0.82 million from  67 defaulters in Eastern Circle;  SE Shabbir recovered Rs 0.92 million from 47 defaulters in Central Circle; SE Zafarullah Saanghi collected Rs 0.12 million from 12 defaulters in South Circle; SE Muhammad Hussain recovered Rs 0.41 million from 11 defaulters in Nankana Circle; SE Najamul Hassan recovered Rs 0.47 million from 16 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; SE Jamshed Zaman collected Rs 0.51 million from 38 defaulters in Okara Circle and SE Ahmed Shahzad Chughtai recovered Rs 0.69 million from 13 defaulters in Kasur Circle.
During the 208 days, the spokesman added that the LESCO has recovered a total of Rs 2.90 billion outstanding dues from 101,113 dead defaulters.
He elaborated that uptill now the company has collected Rs 428.56 million from 14,685 defaulters in Northern Circle; Rs 681.52 million from 13,204 defaulters in Eastern Circle; Rs 384.37 million from 11,384 defaulters in Central Circle; Rs 159.75 million from 5,939 defaulters in South Circle; Rs 234.14 million from 8,735 defaulters in Nankana Circle; Rs 426.04 million from 11,785 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; Rs 188.37 million from 16,139 defaulters in Okara Circle and Rs 399.62 million from 19,242 defaulters in Kasur Circle.

Shoaib Akhter motors round Gaddafi Stadium with ICC T20I trophy

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): Former pace merchant Shoaib Akhter took the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup trophy round the Gaddafi Stadium pitch on a colorful Rangeela rickshaw among roars of approbation from the capacity crowd during the fifth and last match of Pakistan-New Zealand T20I series here on Saturday night.
The spectators in the stands warmly welcomed the crowd-puller of the yesteryear as they stole a peep at the silverware and the former fast-bowling legend Shoaib Akhter.
Earlier in the afternoon, the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 trophy reached Lahore on the third and last leg of its three-day tour in Pakistan and was put on display at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and USA between June 2 and June 29.  The ICC T20 WC trophy reached Islamabad on April 25 and was put on display in Abbottabad on the second day of its tour to Pakistan.

Cotton to be sown on 4m acres this year

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has said this year cotton sowing target is 4 million acres besides the production target set as 6.5 million bales.
He said this while presiding over the review meeting on the current situation of cotton at Agriculture House on Saturday.
The secretary agriculture said that the cotton campaign had been launched with the slogan “cotton revival, Pakistan’s prosperity”.
All possible resources and means were being utilized by Agriculture department to achieve the targets of cotton cultivation and production and availability of quality agricultural inputs was also being ensured to increase production. He directed the relevant officers to implement the zero tolerance policy on the quality of fertilizers, agricultural pesticides and seeds in the markets.
While giving a briefing to the Secretary of Agriculture on this occasion, it was said that due to the rains and weather conditions, the harvesting of wheat crop and the cultivation of cotton were slightly delayed. Agriculture department was taking practical steps to convert South Punjab back into a cotton Valley. Bahawalpur division achieves the target of about 50% of the total cotton cultivation and production.
The secretary said that media should be used effectively for the awareness of cotton farmers and the field activities should be carried out with more effort and dedication this season than last year.
 The cooperation of the district administration was necessary for the success of the cotton campaign. Divisional and district a advisory committee meetings should be held regularly. Ample supply of canal water was being ensured in the cotton cultivation areas.
 Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that directors, deputy directors and assistant directors should play supervisory roles.
