KP CM’s aide grieved over martyrdom of three family members in lighten strike

PESHAWAR, Apr 27 (APP): Adviser to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tourism and Culture Zahid Chanzeb on Saturday expressed grief and sorrow over martyrdom of three members of a family due to lightning strike in Mansehra’s Kundaw Ogi area.

In a message issued here, he expressed condolence and solidarity with the affected family.

He said that although this was a natural disaster, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province had become a province severely affected by climate change after the terrorism.

He said the incidents of lightning strike, storms, floods and other natural calamities had constantly increased, adding that in such circumstances, the federal government should extend support to the province.

The Adviser suggested that it was better that the Federation should provide financial support to KP people and government affected by terrorism and climate change.

He further said that due representation should be given to the province in the national policy on climate change and carbon plus, apart from giving legitimate share of KP.

He said that more than forty percent of the forests of the country were located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which were protected by the provincial government and the people within their limited resources.

He said that the support of federal government to KP would directly benefit the federation besides protecting the natural resources and strengthening the national unity.

PTDC organizes webinar to promote medical tourism

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) here on Saturday organized a webinar on promotion of Medical Tourism in Pakistan.

Managing Director PTDC Aftab ur Rehman Rana moderated this webinar, said a press release. In his opening remarks, Aftab Rana welcomed all the participants and introduced Dr Mubbashir Iftikhar who is a highly respected figure in the medical tourism industry in Malaysia and has played a pivotal role in laying the initial groundwork for the promotion of medical tourism in Malaysia. His active participation in shaping Malaysia’s prominence on the global medical tourism stage has greatly been acknowledged.

Later on, Dr Mubbashir Iftikhar gave a detailed presentation on the topic and presented a roadmap to bring Pakistan on the global map of medical tourism. In the discussion all the participants shared their views and ask various questions to gain further clarity from Dr Mubbashir on various strategies which can be useful to develop the segment of medical tourism in Pakistan.

Stakeholders from PTDC, Ministry of National Health Services, MedAsk, Hospitals and tour operators attended this webinar.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Government of Pakistan has already formed a high level working group to develop a strategy to promote Medical Tourism in Pakistan.

CM orders for precautionary measures to avert rain hazards

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Saturday ordered to undertake preemptive precautionary and essential administrative measures in the wake of rainfall across the province including Lahore.
Directions were issued after the forecast of torrential rains in the province till April 29. CM Maryam ordered commissioners, deputy commissioners and MD WASA to remain vigilant and directed the relevant officers of all shifts to remain in the field.
The chief minister directed the administration and WASA to remain vigilant, proactive and utilise all available resources for water drainage. She further ordered for all essential measures to maintain traffic flow in Lahore and other cities.
The CM directed the traffic wardens to perform their duties vigilantly to facilitate citizens so as to maintain traffic flow. She directed the Rescue services institutions to undertake prompt safety measures for protection of livestock in the rural areas.
She ordered for swift measures for timely shifting of people to safer places from the catchment areas. People of catchment areas should be forewarned about the emergency situation. The CM ordered for seeking assistance from the media, social media and mobile alerts service in this regard.

Govt striving to provide equal education opportunities for all: minister

FAISALABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has said the government is striving to provide equal educational opportunities to all communities living in the country.
Talking to the media during his visit to Government Pakistan Model High School here on Saturday, he said Pakistan was a peaceful country where followers of all religions were respected. He said the government had set its priority to establish such a model school where students of all communities including Muslims and Sikh could get education easily so that inter-faith harmony and tolerance could be promoted in the country.
He said that the schools were facing acute shortage of teachers as no teacher was recruited for the last six years. However, now the government would overcome this shortage on priority basis, he added.
He said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was working under a vision of “Literate Punjab” and in this connection no mafia would be allowed to interfere in the education system.
He said that encroachments in all government schools would be removed immediately to transform them into model educational institutions across the province.
He said that solid steps would be taken to eliminate harassment incidents in the schools. In this regard, complaint cell and portal would be established to take prompt action on receipt of harassment complaints especially against female teachers.
He said that government was also taking immediate steps to provide books on urgent basis whereas booty mafia would be dealt with an iron hand on war-footing so that intelligent students could enjoy fruits of their hard-work in the exams.
A test system would also be introduced to appoint Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Education and merit would be followed strictly in this regard, he added.
Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora said that Pakistan has possessed the culture of various communities and we are struggling to promote the sense of tolerance and brotherhood.
He said that Government Pakistan Model High School has a splendid building which would be preserved after its renovation and rehabilitation. Gurdwara is also adjacent to this school and we wanted to protect and preserve Sikh heritage and promote teachings of Baba Guru Nanak, he added.
Both ministers also visited various sections of Pakistan Model School and took briefing about its administration and educational affairs.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Kashif Raza Awan, CEO Education Kashif Zia, District Officer Secondary Education Iftikhar Ahmad Khan and others were also present on the occasion.
Later, the ministers also jointly presided over a meeting in Commissioner Office and directed the education officers to improve quality of education.
They said that education officers should visit all schools regularly to check discipline and attendance of the staff in addition to redressing their problems.
They also stressed the need of character building of the students and said that education without ethics have not proper benefits. They also welcomed the suggestions and proposals presented by some PML-N leaders and local parliamentarians for improvement in education system and said that their suggestions would be implemented in totol after a thorough consideration.

US diplomats take part in cricketing activity at  Kinnaird College ground

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): The US diplomats immersed themselves into the colours of cricket as they participated in a fun cricket game at the Kinnaird College for Women University (KCWU) cricket grounds, here on Saturday.
The US diplomats from all parts of the country including deputy chief of mission (DCM), US embassy in Islamabad, Andrew Schofer, played cricket with young women cricketers from southern Punjab and honed their cricketing skills.
Embracing spirit of the upcoming ICC’s mega event in the USA from June 2, US Consul General to Lahore Kristin Hawkins, Consul General to Karachi Conrad Tribble, Consul General to Peshawar Shante Moore and other diplomatic staff were clad in green outfits and took part in fun cricket activity against Ali Khan Tareen’s team from the south Punjab.
The Kinnaird College cricket ground wore a festive look as the US diplomats took the field. They showed keen interest in the game of cricket and, sometimes, were seen asking questions from the young women cricketers and Ali Khan Tareen.
DCM Schofer and CG Kristin Hawkins opened the innings after the south Punjab women cricketers asked the US diplomats to bat first. Schofer and Ms Hawkins batted cautiously and, at times, took batting tips from Ali Khan Tareen during their innings, but CG Conrad Tribble impressed the opposition and the spectators with his free-flowing innings. He hit all across the field and was the only one to put the south Punjab women bowlers to test.
Talking to APP about his power hitting, Conrad Tribble said he had played baseball during his high school and those skills had enabled him to do well in batting. He said there were many similarities in cricket and baseball and the US had rich traditions in baseball.
Conrad Tribble’s words were proved true a while later when he was seen throwing the ball like a pitcher in baseball while bowling against the south Punjab women. He did not bowl with round arm action rather threw the ball like a pitcher.
Talking to the media, DCM Andrew Schofer expressed his excitement and eagerness for learning about cricket, adding that more American would learn cricket with the holding of the mega event in the United States.
DCM Schofer and CG Kristin Hawkins also unveiled the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup countdown clock and trophy of the south Punjab Women’s Champion League 2024 under the auspices of the Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP) on the occasion.

ANF recovers 74 kg drugs in three operations

RAWALPINDI, Apr 27 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting three operations across the country managed to recover 74 kg drugs and arrested two accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Saturday.
He informed that 70 kg hashish was recovered from Saranan area in Pishin.
In second operation, 2.2 kg opium, 1.5 kg hashish and 1 kg Ice were recovered from an accused rounded up near Motorway Toll Plaza Sheikhupura.
In third operation, 150 grams Ice was recovered from an accused arrested in Hayatabad Peshawar.
Separate cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused while further investigations are under process.

CM orders setting up integrated health system in Murree, Galiyat

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid a visit to Samli Syed Muhammad Hussain Government TB Sanatorium Hospital in a torrential rain on Saturday.
The CM ordered to establish an integrated health system in the whole area including Murree, Galiyat, said a handout issued here.
She directed to set up a helipad and an airstrip to shift patients from the hilly areas in case of an emergency. While directing to fully functionalize the mother and child block immediately, she underlined the need to undertake prompt measures for the appointment of doctors, staff along with establishing their residences.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered to establish general wards in the Samli Hospital and directed to set up the latest cardiac block. An Oncology Unit will also be established for the cancer treatment in Syed Muhammad Hussain Government TB Sanatorium Hospital. Medicine, Surgery, Urology, Ortho, Eye and ENT wards will be established.
The chief minister directed to run transport immediately in order to shift the patients to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital and Samli Hospital in Murree. She inspected OPD, wards, other sections and inquired from the lady doctor about the hospital and the treatment of patients.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed to undertake prompt measures for the treatment of a brother of a woman in the OPD and said that even if a helicopter is required to shift the patient will be provided. She also visited the TB ward and inquired after each and every patient. She inquired from the patients about their treatment and prayed for their early recovery.
A TB patient, Raja Israr, while talking to the CM said, “Our daughter has come to inquire after us and I am very happy.”
The CM advised the son of Raja Israr that parents are a great source of support, blessing and he should make an all-out effort to serve them. She inquired from the patients about the provision of medicines and treatment facilities in the hospital.
She expressed her satisfaction over the arrangements and treatment facilities in Syed Muhammad Hussain Government TB Sanatorium Hospital. She also inspected the store room in the Samli Sanatorium Hospital.
The chief minister was given a detailed briefing in the committee room of Samli Hospital.
MNA Osama Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, MPA Bilal Yameen Sati, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Commissioner Amir Khattak, ADC(R), Assistant Commissioner, CEO Health and MS  were also present.

Anti-dengue surveillance geared up

LAHORE, Apr 27 (APP):The anti-dengue drive initiated by the district administration is in full swing under which surveillance is being carried out at various points in the provincial capital.
In this regard, Assistant Commissioner Model Town Sahibzada Yousaf on Saturday visited Union Council UC-95 Gulberg, where he inspected anti-dengue arrangements and instructed the house owners about dengue preventive measures.
He checked houses, empty plots and commercial markets of the area and assessed the close monitoring of dengue larva elimination. He observed the attendance and performance of anti-dengue squad deputed on field duty in the area.
Similarly, Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Anam Fatima visited UC-52 to inspect anti dengue arrangements at under-construction commercial buildings. She also assessed dengue surveillance and door marking in the area and instructed the area in-charges to complete their task in accordance with the micro plan. She directed the dengue teams deputed in the area to gear up pace of anti-dengue spray process.
Assistant Commissioner Raiwind Zenab Tahir inspected anti-dengue measures at UC-122 and reviewed the dengue case response. She visited the houses of dengue patients and inquired about their health and dengue teams response.
All other assistant commissioners also conducted inspection visits in their jurisdictions and monitored the anti-dengue arrangements besides monitoring the fumigation process.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider has appealed to the citizens to keep their surroundings clean and fresh to avoid dengue fever. People are requested not to let rainwater stand anywhere, she added.
