PM directs formation of committee for consultation with provinces on carbon credits policy

ISLAMABAD, Apr 26 (APP):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Friday directed formation of a committee for consultation with the provinces for policy making on guiding principles for carbon credits.
He was chairing the third meeting of Pakistan Council for Climate Change.
The federal and provincial governments would work together for making policies regarding climate change, he said.
“Our challenges regarding climate change are increasing with every passing day,” he said, adding without the consultation of provinces, there was no question of policy making of any kind on the issue.
The participants discussed in detail policy guidelines for foreign trading in carbon credits. He instructed that a policy draft should be presented in the next meeting of the Council after consultation with the provinces.
The chief ministers of the four provinces expressed their viewpoint regarding policy making and gave recommendations.
The prime minister directed that the provinces and other stakeholders should be taken into confidence regarding the important policy draft on climate change.
He said Pakistan was one of the countries badly suffered from the adverse effects of climate change. It was gravely affected by the rains in 2022 and the floods caused by them.
As a servant of Pakistan, he said, he worked for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees and fought the case of Pakistan all across the world regarding climate change.
He said Ahsan Iqbal and Sherry Rehman and all the relevant institutions and ministries took important steps to take Pakistan out of that difficult time and to build infrastructure in the country regarding climate change.
He said he and the Pakistani nation were thankful to the friendly countries and the international community particularly Secretary General of the United Nations for coming to the aid of affected Pakistanis.
Federal ministers including Ishaq Dar, Ahad Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb and Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Coordinator of Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam, high level officers and experts from the public and private sectors attended the meeting.
The Azad Jammu & Kashmir prime minister and the chief ministers of provinces, including Gilgit Baltistan, attended the meeting through video link.

New Zealand cricket CEO visits PSCA, expresses satisfaction over security arrangements

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): A delegation from New Zealand cricket, led by Chief Executive Officer Scott Weenink, visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority headquarters, here on Friday.
 Managing Director PSCA Muhammad Ahsan Younas, Chief Admin Shoaib Mahmood, and Operations Commander Shafiq Ahmed briefed the delegation on security arrangements and force deployment for the cricket series between Pakistan and New Zealand.
The delegation was briefed about the use of modern artificial intelligence technology and coordination with security agencies. The Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand Cricket expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and was impressed by the city’s monitoring through modern cameras.
He praised the warm welcome and excellent environment provided by the Safe Cities team. Scott Weenink, CEO of New Zealand Cricket, shared his thoughts on the Pakistan-New Zealand cricket series, saying, “Your system is world-class, and I am delighted to see it.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority presented the delegation with commemorative shields.

NAB Lahore holds open court, promises compensations for victims

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore held its monthly open court here on Friday, addressing the grievances of over 350 affected individuals.
Lahore NAB Director-General Amjad Majeed Aulakh personally listened to all the complainants and provided appropriate directions on-the-spot.
The victims of Prime Zone, Palm Vista Housing, Al-Rehman Garden, Khayaban-e-Amin Housing Society, and Lasani Chicks, Al-Jalil Garden, Al-Kabir Town, and Grand Avenue Housing attended the session.
Significant actions were taken against the administration of Prime Zone, with the NAB freezing both movable and immovable properties of the accused. The owners’ 300 kanals of land were also seized, and the case is being fast-tracked for court indictment.
NAB teams are actively working on arresting the accused and completing the court indictments. For the Prime Zone case, verification of claims for 1400 victims has been completed, while other claims are still under verification.
The layout plan for Khayaban-e-Amin Society has been approved, and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been assigned the responsibility for the society’s development. NAB has seized valuable properties of the society’s owners, which will be sold to complete the development of the society.
According to NAB Lahore, the society’s administration has defrauded a total of 7000 victims, and the process of receiving claims is ongoing.
Swift measures have been taken against the administration of Al-Rehman Garden, with all assets and land of the society being seized. Stern disciplinary action is also expected from NAB Lahore against the administration.
For Palm Vista Society, stringent actions have been taken, with the complete land of the society being seized. The movable and immovable properties of the accused have also been seized, and the search for other assets continues.
A reference against the owners of Lasani Chicks is currently under trial in the accountability court. The process to issue red warrants for the proclaimed offenders has begun, with efforts to bring them back from abroad.
The DG NAB has issued instructions to the district administration regarding the affected individuals of Al-Jalil Garden, Al-Kabir Town, and Grand Avenue, ensuring immediate possession and ownership of plots upon full payment of dues.
The open court initiative by the Chairman NAB has been highly appreciated by the victims, as it aims to reduce the distance between the affected individuals and NAB.
The DG highlighted the importance of open court sessions, which take place on the last Friday of every month, as a means to bridge the gap between the victims and the National Accountability Bureau. These sessions are a direct opportunity for the victims to present their grievances, with the Director-General personally addressing their concerns.

‘Transforming Punjab Agriculture’ plan to help develop farm sector on modern lines: minister

LAHORE, Apr 26 (APP): Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s, ‘Transforming Punjab Agriculture’ plan worth over Rs. 400 billion will be an important milestone for the farm sector development and farmers’ prosperity.
He said this while presiding over a high-level meeting at Agriculture House on Friday. The meeting reviewed the time-line of the plan.
Kirmani said that all the arrangements for providing interest-free loans of Rs. 300 billion to the farmers were in the final stages of completion. The loan scheme was ongoing with the cooperation of Agriculture department and Bank of Punjab. He further said that under this flagship program, 500,000 farmers would be provided interest-free loans.
To ensure the transparency of this scheme, Punjab Kissan card was being issued soon. Agriculture Minister said that 7,000 tube wells would be transferred to solar system across the province. Besides, 5,000 super seeders and 2,000 rice shredders would be provided to the farmers at 60% subsidy.
In Punjab, 7,300 water courses would be improved at a cost of Rs 80 billion. Rs 2 billion would be utilized on the reorganization of the agriculture extension.
As many as 500 agricultural graduates would be recruited on contract to provide better extension services to the farmers.
On this occasion, Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that institutional reforms were being introduced under the “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Programme”. State-of-the-art research centers were being established to increase the quality and production of cotton, wheat and rice. Legislation was being made for the supply of quality fertilizers and agricultural medicines at fixed prices.

Chairman PRCS engages in humanitarian collaboration with ambassador of Morocco

ISLAMABAD, Apr 26 (APP): Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, held a courtesy meeting with Ambassador of the of Morocco in Pakistan, Mohammed Karmoune here on Friday.
This meeting that took place at the Embassy of Morocco marked a crucial moment in the humanitarian relationship between Pakistan and Morocco.
The meeting provided a platform for both parties to deliberate on matters of mutual interest, particularly focusing on humanitarian aid and disaster management. Chairman Laghari emphasized the substantial partnership between the two nations in addressing humanitarian challenges.
During the discussions, Chairman Laghari provided insights into the ongoing programs and projects of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to serving vulnerable communities nationwide. He underscored the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in effectively addressing humanitarian crises, expressing gratitude for Morocco’s past participation in PRCS-organized events such as the International Donors Conference.
Chairman Laghari specifically emphasized PRCS’s anticipation of support from the Government of Morocco, especially in the recovery phase following the devastating Monsoon 2022 floods. He also expressed a strong desire to enhance cooperation, particularly with the Moroccan government, the Moroccan Red Cross, and other humanitarian organizations aligned with the Red Crescent mandate, aiming to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable communities in Pakistan.
The chairman extended an invitation to the ambassador to visit the PRCS which was graciously accepted.
Ambassador Mohammed Karmoune expressed gratitude to Chairman Laghari for the comprehensive information and insights provided regarding disaster management during the floods, noting the impressive execution. He commended the PRC Society for its relentless efforts, led by Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, in providing assistance to those in need, especially during times of crisis.
The ambassador pledged to facilitate Chairman Laghari’s visit to Morocco, arranging meetings with counterparts from the Moroccan Red Cross and heads of humanitarian organizations. He recognized the indispensable role of humanitarian organizations like PRCS in mitigating human suffering and promoting resilience within communities.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman Laghari presented a memento to Ambassador Mohammed Karmoune, along with a souvenir, symbolizing the spirit of humanitarian collaboration.
