Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm expected in most parts of country: PMD

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP):Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm is expected in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, as per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast.
Heavy falls are also likely at few places in north Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the synoptic situation, a westerly wave was affecting western parts of the country and likely to grip most upper/central parts on April 26.
The PMD has warned that isolated/moderate to heavy rainfall may generate flash flood in local nullahs/Streams of Balochistan specially (Noushki, Chagai, Kharan, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Awaran, Ziarat, Pishin, Harnai, Zhob, Barkhan and Naseerabad) till April 27.
Isolated/moderate to heavy rainfall may generate flash floods in local nullahs/Streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, Kohistan and Kashmir from April 27-29.
The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan may affect the vulnerable locations during the period. Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may affect human lives, standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels etc during the period.
During the last 24 hours, dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while hot in southern parts.
However, rain-thunderstorm occurred at isolated places in Northwest Balochistan and Parachinar.
The rainfall recorded was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Parachinar 03mm, Balochistan: Nokkundi 02 and Quetta 01mm. The highest maximum temperatures recorded were Dadu, Khairpur, Mohenjo Daro and Jacobabad 43 C.

CEO APM Terminals meets Commerce Minister

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): The Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Keith Svendsen on Thursday met with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to discuss prospective opportunities for APM Terminals in Pakistan.

The Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan Jakob Linulf was also presented in the meeting, said a news release.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted Pakistan’s interest in land trade and logistics, particularly emphasizing the transportation of goods as a priority investment area.

The minister elaborated on Pakistan’s multi-modal connectivity, including land-to-sea and sea-to-land routes, and its proximity to key regional ports and economies.

He encouraged investment from Maersk and other Danish organizations in Pakistan’s logistics and shipping sectors, stressing the potential for cross-border transit trade with Central Asian countries.

Keith Svendsen expressed his gratitude to Jam Kamal Khan for Pakistan’s steadfast support towards A.P. Moller Maersk.

He emphasized Pakistan’s strategic importance in global trade and expressed eagerness to contribute to its development.

Discussions centered around Pakistan’s burgeoning economy, burgeoning trade volumes, logistical challenges, and avenues for growth.

Both parties agreed to exchange proposals and frameworks to further explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, signaling a promising step towards potential collaborations between APM Terminals and the Pakistan Commerce Ministry.

CM meets parents of  lady constables, traffic assistants

LAHORE, Apr 25 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reached out to parents sitting in pavilion after participating in the Police Training College passing-out parade.
She congratulated parents of constables and traffic assistants on successfully completing their training, and shook hands with women present over there. The grandfather of a lady constable put a hand of affection on the head of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif and prayed for her well-being.
The CM, while talking with the parents of two lady constables, said: “You are congratulated twice and myself also as they are my daughters.”
She asked an elderly citizen to say ‘I Love You’ to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif. The CM also met the lady constables and traffic assistants, shook hands with children and also had photographs with them. She checked 3.3 gun and had a photograph by holding it.

Shayan, Rashid, Junaid to represent Pakistan in U12 Regional Qualifying Jrs

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has selected Mohammad Shayan, Rashid Ali, and Mohammad Junaid to feature in the Under-12 Regional Qualifying Juniors tennis fixture, to take place from May 20 to 24 in Nepal.

According to PTF, the trials for the selection of three players for the Pakistan U12 Boys’ Juniors team were conducted from April 24 to 25 here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex.

A total of eight players were invited for the trials based on their performance and current PTF 12 & under ranking. Out of these players two were selected after completion of trials.

Shayan was exempted from the trials due to his exceptional performances in the national tournaments.
Mohammad Abid would be accompanying the team as Captain-cum-Coach.

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi President PTF and Zia-ud-din Tufail Secretary General PTF has congratulated the selected players, wishing them good luck, to display their best tennis in the tournament.
