RTO Rawalpindi destroys huge quantity of non-duty paid cigarettes

RAWALPINDI, Apr 25 (APP): Regional Tax Office (RTO), Rawalpindi here on Thursday carried out destruction of massive quantity of illicit, smuggled, counterfeit and non-duty paid cigarettes valuing around at Rs 194 million.

The RTO organized a ceremony for destruction of about 2585 packets (25,580,000 sticks) of illicit cigarettes, said a news release.

Chief Commissioner, RTO, Tehmina Aamer was present as Chief Guest on the occasion which was also attended by the Members of World Health Organization (WHO) and officers of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The participants were briefed about the whole process from confiscation of illicit tobacco and tobacco products till its ultimate destruction under the law.

All the guests together torched and destroyed the illicit cigarettes.

Poverty to be ended by establishing border markets: Balochistan Governor

QUETTA, Apr 25 (APP): Governor Balochistan Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar on Thursday said that the economic development and prosperity of the country was related to Balochistan while unemployment and poverty could be eradicated in the province by establishing border markets and promoting border trade.
He expressed these views while talking to Pak Navy Commander Central Punjab Rear Admiral Azhar Mehmood (Star Imtiaz Military) during a meeting here.
During the meeting, the development of the coastal areas of the province, equipping the children with the jewel of education, stabilizing the border trade, law and order situation and new possibilities regarding sea trade were also discussed.
On this occasion, Governor Balochistan Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar said that the time has come for us to take bold decisions for the economic development and political stability of the country and the province.
He said that Balochistan was a province rich in natural resources and minerals despite it was the largest province in terms of area and the population here was small but scattered due to which it was very difficult to provide all the basic facilities to the people.
The Governor said that despite having long borders with Afghanistan and Iran, the peace and order situation in Balochistan was much better than in the past due to the sacrifices of the security agencies.
He said that we were proud of our national institutions and it was a matter of pride and joy for all of us that officers from different countries of the world come to our institutions for training. In the end, commemorative shields were also exchanged between the honored guests.

WWB directed to identify board’s land for revenue generation

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labor, Fazal Shakoor Khan has directed Workers Welfare Board (WWB) to identify commercial land of the board sand utilize it for revenue generation.
He issued these directives while chairing meeting of WWB held here on Thursday. He also directed to form a committee comprising three members from WWB to compile ideas and suggestions regarding land identification and sought a report within two week time.
He said that construction of plazas, shops and parks on the commercial land would play a vital role in revenue generation for WWB.
On the occasion, the minister was briefed about vocational, technical and general educational institutions working under WWB.
Meeting also discussed labor colonies, illegal occupation of houses, functioning of various committees including finance committee, implementation committee and rationalization committee. Minister was told that WWB would send ten industrial workers to Saudi Arabia this year to perform hajj.

Police arrest 4 suspects, recovered phones, bikes

LARKANA, Apr 25 (APP): Larkana police on Thursday arrested four undercover suspects and recovered a motorcycle and valuable mobile phone from their possession.
SSP Larkana Mir Rohal Khan said that the arrested accused are Abid Hussain, Ariz Mohammad and Abdullah Dayo. He informed that murder and police encounters cases have been registered against the accused.

NACTA organizes 1st Annual Research Conference

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): National Counter Terrorism Agency (NACTA) in collaboration with UNODC organized a crucial Research Conference on ‘Understanding Terrorism in Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the National Coordinator NACTA, Muhammad Tahir Rai, Hilal-i-Shujaat and Sitara-i-Imtiaz observed that the discussions and insights garnered during the conference will go on to serve as a rich repository of actionable strategies.
The insights offered will be translated into practical policies, procedures, and interventions that align with NACTA’s mission and mandate to counter and prevent extremism & terrorism in Pakistan.
The conference brought together six distinguished subject experts from all over Pakistan and beyond to present their respective findings on this very pressing issue. The specific focus on NMDs helped address the critical gaps in the existing academic literature.
The Conference was attended by participants from all relevant stakeholders, including Universities, Research Institutes, Think Tanks, and Government organizations.

Collective efforts needed to curb terrorism: Barrister Saif

PESHAWAR, April 25 (APP): The recent spike of targeted attacks on security forces, customs and police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is a national issue which must be addressed with collective efforts, said Barrister Dr Saif here on Thursday.
“We can overcome and eliminate the menace of terrorism with united efforts, ” Barrister Dr Saif said. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Advisor on Information and Public Relations Barrister Dr Saif further said that terrorism is our country’s serious matter and police, security forces and law enforcement agencies are fighting war against terrorism with available resources.
Hundreds of civilians and security forces have lost their lives during the recent terrorists attacks, he added. Police and security forces are vigilant and determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism, he said.
He said such sacrifices of law enforcement and security agencies would further strengthen our resolve. He reiterated that KP government and the entire province standing behind the security forces in the war against terror. He stressed that we will fight the war against terror till the end of militancy in this part of the region.
There is a need to have full political responsibility and collective wisdom to win war against terrorism and achieve permanent peace, he said.
Barrister Dr Saif said that Police, Army and law enforcement agencies are committed to eliminate scourge of terrorism in the province.

SACM visits GTVC checks attendance register

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP): Special Assistant to KP CM on Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Abdul Karim Khan Tordhair paid a surprise visit to Government Technical & Vocational Centre Haripur on Thursday and checked the attendance register of the staff.
On this occasion, Principal of the college told the Special Assistant that theory and training programmes are taught in the various sections of the institute.
Talking to the Principal, administrative and teaching staffers, the SACM stressed need for initiating work on various proposals regarding the capacity building, financial stability and autonomy of the centre.
He said that there is immediate need for beginning work on proposal for financial stability of the centre and further proposed the adoption of such model by the experts and students of the centre to introduce the products of the institute as samples in the market.
He said that such steps would help the centre to produce goods to the extent of enabling the centre to earn annual budget for itself.
Abdul Karim Khan said that such proposals would bring the capacity and quality of the products produced here at par with the demands of the market and those learnt skills from the institute would in a position to begin their own businesses.

DC for immediate distribution of agricultural fertilizer to farmers

HYDERABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Shehryar Gul Memon instructed Additional Director of Agriculture Muhammad Ramzan Chana to distribute agricultural fertilizer within 24 hours in the district.
The prices should be controlled immediately to ensure the supply of agricultural fertilizers to the farmers at fixed prices, otherwise strict legal action will be taken against the Additional Director of Agriculture and other relevant officers.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that it is the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture to  go to the field and visit the dealers and shops of agricultural fertilizers and review the prices and submit a report.
Black marketing of fertilizer will not be tolerated under any circumstances, providing relief to farmers is the top priority.
