Awais Leghari meets Chief Minister Sindh

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Power Division Awais Ahamd Khan Leghari met with Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah here Thursday at the Sindh House.

During the meeting they agreed to cooperate in the prevention of electricity theft, said a statement.

The Sindh Chief Minister assured full cooperation in the ongoing campaign against electricity pilferage. The minister thanked the chief minister for his support in the national cause.

Ahsan Iqbal chairs CPEC JWGs, 13th JCC review-meeting

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday chaired a review-meeting of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Joint Working Groups (CPEC-JWGs) and the 13th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC).

The meeting, attended among others by Secretary Ministry of Planning Awais Manzur Sumra, Additional Secretary Kamran Rehman Khan and senior officials, reviewed the progress on the recommendations made during the 12th JCC and JWGs held last year.

The minister was briefed on the preparations for the 13th JCC and the progress on projects such as ML-1, Karakoram Highway Phase-2 Dera Ismail Khan-Zhob and Karachi Circular Railway.

Ahsan Iqbal informed the meeting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would soon visit China to further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

He directed the officials concerned to finalize a strategy to ensure fast-track implementation on Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and other agreements on priority basis.

The minister warned that no hurdles in the implementation of CPEC agreements would be tolerated, directing the officials concerned to ensure regular meetings of the JWGs.

He also asked the relevant ministries to ensure participation in the decision-making process and to prepare a solid agenda for the 13th JCC.

Immunization campaign to protect children from deadly diseases in full swing

NAROWAL, Apr 25 (APP): According to the directives of the Punjab government, the campaign of immunization to protect children from various deadly diseases has been started.
The immunization campaign will continue from April, 24 to 30.
A meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Narowal Syed Hassan Raza regarding the immunization campaign. CEO Health Dr. Naveed Haider, DHO Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Dr. Zahid Randhawa, Dr. Rahat Javed Khan and others were present on this occasion.
At the end of the meeting, an awareness rally was held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Narowal. The purpose of the rally was to create awareness among parents about getting their children vaccinated against deadly diseases.
On this occasion, the DC said, “I appeal to the parents of children that teams to vaccinate children will come to your city, village, street and neighborhood, you should cooperate with them and get your children vaccinated, so that our children can be protected from diseases.”

Industries Minister recommends urea fertilizer import to stabilize prices and supply

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain on Thursday recommended the import of 0.200 million metric tons of urea fertilizer to stabilize prices and supply in the country during the Kharif season-2024.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the Fertilizer Review Committee after analyzing consumption patterns, available stock, and future needs during the kharif season-2024, said a news release.

Rana Tanveer emphasized that the purpose of the import is to ensure food security in the country, increase productivity for country’s farmers, and reduce prices significantly, thereby stabilizing the local urea fertilizer market.

The final decision to import urea fertilizer will be taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in the next meeting.

The minister shared that the demand for urea fertilizer has increased by 3.6 percent compared to the previous year, with an anticipated demand of approximately 3442 metric tons for the Kharif season.

The available stock in the country is approximately 3192 metric tons, resulting in a shortfall.

To address this, 0.200 million metric tons of urea fertilizer will be imported, while the rest will be met by increasing production in local fertilizer plants.

All local urea fertilizer plants will remain operational at full capacity to meet local demands, and the government is ensuring a smooth gas supply to the fertilizer industry.

Zhao Shirin calls on Punjab Industries Minister

LAHORE, Apr 25 (APP): Chinese Consul General Zhao Shirin here Thursday called on Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain to discuss ways and means to increase cooperation in technical education.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to increase cooperation in technical education, information technology, agriculture, solar and other sectors.
A new agreement between Punjab Tianjin University of Technology and the Government of China was also discussed.
The Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren congratulated Chaudhry Shafay Hussain on assuming the Department of Industries and Commerce.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that many Chinese companies have invested in Punjab and ‘we would welcome further investment.’ He said that effective steps have been taken for the security of Chinese citizens and their investment in the province. The government wants manufacturing plants of solar panels to be set up in Punjab. He urged the Chinese investor groups to invest in the manufacturing of solar panels assuring that provincial government would provide all possible facilitation in this regard.
The provincial minister said that by improving the quality of technical education, valuable foreign exchange could be earned by sending skilled manpower to foreign countries for employment. The syllabus of the courses is being changed and aligned with the modern requirements, he mentioned.
Free IT courses are being conducted to equip the youth with modern knowledge. It has also been directed to introduce short courses in Punjab Tianjin University of Technology. He said that the contacts between the students and the industry would be increased. “We will have to move forward rapidly for the promotion of bilateral trade cooperation,” he added.
The Chinese Consul General said that China’s Energy Company has set up a solar project in Bahawalpur. “We will increase cooperation with Punjab in energy, agriculture and other sectors,” he assured.
The Chinese Consul General also appreciated the steps being taken by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) for the promotion of foreign investment.
Secretary Industries and Commerce Ehsan Bhutta, CEO PBIT Jalal Hasan, Commercial Consular of the Chinese Consulate and others were present.

CM lauds TCF’s journey from 5 schools to 2000 across country

KARACHI, Apr 25 (APP): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that underprivileged students from The Citizens Foundation (TCF) have successfully qualified for admission to prestigious universities and many of them have also passed the CSS exams and are currently working in both national and multinational companies.
“The motto of TCF ‘Quality education for the less privileged’ has had and is having an immense impact on our society.”
This he said while speaking at a program The Citizens Foundation (TCF) organised in collaboration with the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF)  – “Greatness of Spirit in Karachi: Book Launch & Magsaysay Laureate Reunion,” at a local hotel.
CM Shah appreciated TCF’s journey from five schools to nearly 2,000 schools across the country in the urban slums and rural communities. “The Sindh government has given its 500 Schools to TCF for their outstanding results,” he said and added that he was so pleased to know that the TCF students were qualifying for admission in prestigious Universities and some of them have completed MBA from IBA, and LUMS and qualified for CSS exams and Fulbright scholarships and now serving in national and multinational companies.
The CM expressed his admiration for the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, for initiating this prestigious award which is now considered an ‘Asian Noble Prize’ in the field of public service.
He also commented that it’s heartening to know that the RMAF award was given regardless of nationality, religion and ethnicity. On behalf of the people of Pakistan especially the province of Sindh, Murad Shah extended heartfelt gratitude to RMAF for giving 13 prestigious awards to our legends who have given their lives to the country for a public cause.
The event commemorated the 65th anniversary of the Ramon Magsaysay Award and marked the launch of the seven-volume book series titled, “GREATNESS OF SPIRIT: Stories of Love, Courage, and Service,” showcasing the inspiring lives of all 348 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees worldwide whose selfless service has offered their societies, Asia, and the world successful solutions to some of the most intractable problems of human development.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s premier prize and highest honour, recognizes the greatness of spirit shown in selfless service to the people of Asia – regardless of race, gender or religion. There have been 13 laureates from Pakistan of the award until now which are Henry Holland and Ronald Holland, Akhter Hameed Khan, Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilqis Bano Edhi, Shoaib Sultan Khan, Asma Jahangir, Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui, Ruth Pfau, Ibn Abdur Rehman, The Citizens Foundation (TCF) and Muhammad Amjad Saqib.
The Chairperson of the RMAF, Ms. Cecilia Lazaro hailed the Ramon Magsaysay Awardees from Pakistan as true heroes, acknowledging their unwavering dedication to fighting injustice and serving humanity with hope and optimism.
President of the RMAF, Ms. Susanna B. Afan, through an online message emphasized the collective spirit of the awardees.
Ahsan Saleem, Chairman of TCF, shared that The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a non-profit organization set up in 1995 by a group of citizens. TCF is now one of Pakistan’s leading organizations in the field of education for the less privileged.
The occasion was graced by the Maria Agnes M. Cervantes, Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, Sarah Mooney, British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, distinguished representatives from RMAF, esteemed past awardees, local educators, diplomats, businessmen and many other notable figures.

Action taken against officers not recovering 85% tax: Secretary

Sargodha, Apr 25 (APP): Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Punjab Secretary Masood Mukhtar has said that action has been taken against the officers who did not meet the target of 85% taxes recovery across the province.
He expressed these views during a surprise visit to the Excise and Taxation office Sargodha Division, here on Thursday.
The Secretary said that Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) would have to go to the field themselves whereas the recovery of district Khushab and district Bhakkar would be monitored closely.
He said that he had already issued clear instructions to the divisional directors and ETOs of all districts to meet the recovery targets given by the government up to 100% in all circumstances. “All districts are required to recover 85% of their target in May”, he instructed.
He said that the districts whose recovery was not as per the target had been directed to monitor the recovery of ETOs of their respective districts on a daily basis. The Secretary said that the general holdup was being made effective against the vehicle owners who did not pay tax across the province so that the recovery target could be completed in time.
On the occasion, the Director Sargodha apprised that Rs 859.8 millions had been collected from the four districts and deposited in the national treasury.
He told that more than Rs 492.5 million had been collected from Sargodha district, 166.2  million from Khushab district, 116.4 m from Mianwali district and more than 84.7 million from Bhakkar district.

Allama Iqbal gave Muslim Ummah a new dimension of thinking, hope: Dar

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday paying tributes to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, said that the great poet and philosopher gave the Muslim Ummah a new dimension of thinking and hope.

He stated this while addressing as chief guest at a special event to commemorate Allama Muhammad Iqbal titled “Bayad-e-Iqbal” organized by Allama Iqbal Council here.

He highly praised the whole team of Allama Iqbal Council led by its Chairman Allama Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema for organizing this important event aiming to promote his philosophy, life, and contributions.

The minister said that no nation could survive without hope which Iqbal also taught through his poetry and other literary works. He told the gathering that that Allama Iqbal emphasized on the unity among Muslim Ummah and revivial of Islamic civilization.

He said that the high resilience, commitment and hope were a must for a nation to achieve the set goals.

Expressing optimism for a great future of Pakistan, he said being a nuclear power, the country had all the potential to become an economic power.

Ishaq Dar underscored Iqbal’s teachings, urging youth to engage in continuous struggle, pursue knowledge, conduct research, and draw inspiration from the rich Muslim legacy.

In his address, Turkish Ambassador in Pakistan Dr. Mehmet Pacaci, also paid tributes to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, as he presented the idea of Pakistan as a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent.

Speaking as a special guest, Dr. Masooma Iran, an official of Iran’s Foreign Office, paid tributes to the great poet and said that Allama Iqbal believed in the unity of Islamic nations and the solidarity of Muslim countries.

Tajikistan diplomat, Imam Ali Shifai, also shed light on the life and contributions of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and paid glowing tributes in his speech.

Earlier, Chairman Allama Iqbal Council Islamabad Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema said that those who did not pay tribute to their national heroes destined to fade away. Iqbal’s intellect would always remain guiding principle for the humanity, he added.

MNA Ali Muhammad Khan and Dr Humaira Shehbaz also shed lights on the life and contributions of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Dr. Humaira Shehbaz spoke about the Persian poetry and books of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The event was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life.

IHC adjourns  cipher case hearing against PTI founder  till April 20

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday adjourned hearing till April 30, on appeals against the conviction of PTI founder and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in cipher case.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the appeal of two accused.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s prosecutor Hamid Shah continued arguments during the hearing.
The prosecutor said that the court has to look at four things in this case, did the copy of the cipher reach the accused or not? Whether the document was received by the accused in physical form or not?
The telegram was sent to Haseeb Gohar FSA. He said that the classified documents, which include pamphlets, books, etc are called secret documents.
The court noted that Shah Mehmood Qureshi has not been accused of missing the cipher document. On the occasion, the prosecutor prayed the court to grant further time for case preparation after which the hearing was adjourned.
