SMC officers from NIM receive briefing on BISP operations

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): The 35th Senior Management Course (SMC) Officers from the National Institute of Management (NIM) Islamabad, Thursday visited Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Headquarters and have knowledge of BISP’s operations and expertise in executing its various pro-poor schemes for disadvantaged sections of society.
The visit of the SMC Officers was conducted under the guidance of Directing Staff, Ms. Samreen Zahra with an aim to delve into BISP’s operations and expertise in implementing Social Protection Programmes aimed at uplifting marginalized segments of society.
Secretary BISP, Amer Ali Ahmad, provided them with an insightful briefing and elaborated upon the foundational principles of BISP, its extensive nationwide presence, and its overarching mission of empowering disadvantaged communities.
During the session, Secretary Ahmad shed light on BISP’s core initiatives, including flagship programs such as Benazir Kafaalat, Benazir Taleemi Wazaif, and Benazir Nashonuma.
He apprised the participants about the registration process for beneficiaries and underscored BISP’s pivotal role in responding to shocks and crises within the community.
Furthermore, the Secretary BISP highlighted several recent innovations and enhancements introduced by the programme, including the implementation of a new payment model, the deployment of Mobile Registration Vehicles (MRVs), and the initiation of Digital and Financial Literacy Programs.
He also outlined BISP’s commitment to inclusivity through initiatives such as the Hybrid Social Protection Scheme and the enrollment of widows in BISP.
An interactive question-answer session was also conducted, wherein the participants actively queried about BISP’s budgetary allocations and its partnerships with International Donors.
In closing, the participants expressed their gratitude for the comprehensive briefing particularly regarding Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) and Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programs, as well as its newfound focus on financial empowerment initiatives.

RWMC organises cleanliness awareness camp at Murree’s Mall

RAWALPINDI, Apr 25 (APP):Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) organized a cleanliness awareness camp at Mall Road, Murree under the “Suthra Punjab” drive on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to a RWMC spokesman, the communication and social mobilization team of RWMC also conducted a door-to-door activity in the market area of Mall Road and distributed pamphlets about the importance and effectiveness of cleanliness, and hazards of dengue. The team requested the citizens to participate in the cleanliness campaign.
The spokesman called upon the residents to leave no place wet or with stagnant water and keep an eye on junkyards, schools, under-construction buildings, and other sites that might contribute to spreading dengue larvae.
Furthermore, he appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the sanitation staff to keep the city clean. He urged the residents to throw garbage in waste containers and avoid dumping it on roads, drains and open plots.
In addition, they were asked to prevent burning chemicals and waste in the city. In case of any cleanliness-related complaint, the citizens were advised to contact the helpline number 1139.

Second research poster competition held at Benazir Bhutto University Larkana

SUKKUR, Apr 25 (APP): The 2nd Research Poster Competition 2024, organized by Shaheed Mohttarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU Larkana held at the Gymnasium hall here on Thursday.
The event inaugurated by Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Dr Nusrat Shah along with distinguished guests including Prof Dr M. Hanif Shaikh, the Dean of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof Dr Qararo Shah, Dean of Community Medicine, Prof Zameer Ahmed Soomro, Principal Chandika Medical College (CMC), Director ORIC, Dr Mir Hassan Khoso and Prof Dr Saleem Raza Khuhawar.
Over 100 research posters were presented by undergraduate students from Chandka Medical College Larkana, BADC Dental College, Institute of Pharmacy, GMM Medical College Sukkur, Benazir College of Nursing Larkana, and IPRS Larkana. Additionally, 10 research posters were presented by faculty members and postgraduate students of SMBBMU Larkana.
Chief Guest of the event, VC Prof. Nusrat Shah emphasized the importance of research in academia. She pledged university support for publishing research papers in international journals. Principal, Chandka Medical College, Director ORIC, Dr Mir Hassan Khoso, highlighted the university’s commitment to research excellence, citing the success of the 1st Research Poster Competition in 2023 and the current event.
Later, 10,000 cash prizes and certificates awarded for 10 best research posters presented by the Vice Chancellor.

PSX loses 80 points

ISLAMABAD, Apr 25 (APP): The 100-Index of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday shed 80.49 points, a negative change of 0.11 percent, closing at 71,971.40 points against 72,051.89 points the previous trading day.

A total of 798,527,177 shares valuing Rs.27.542 billion were traded during the day as compared to 599,401,643 shares valuing Rs. 24.459 billion the last day.

Some 389 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 173 of them recorded gains and 191 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 25 remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were K-Electric Limited with 119,648,396 shares at Rs.4.64 per share, WorldCall Telecom with 79,958,285 shares at Rs.1.39 per share and Air Unity Foods Limited with 44,276,576 shares at Rs.24.91 per share.

Hallmark Company Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.74.31 per share price, closing at Rs.1,072.52, whereas the runner-up was Mari Petroleum Company Limited with a Rs.28.33 rise in its per share price to Rs.2,829.10.

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.372.99 per share closing at Rs.20,255.00, followed by Sapphire Textile Mills Limited with Rs.79.34 decline to close at Rs.1,186.03.

FIA, Anti-Corruption deptt to be involved in probe of financial scam in SCCI

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP): Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) will approach Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Anti-Corruption Department in probing of massive financial scam in the trade body involving misappropriation of millions of rupees through forgery in issuance of recommendation letters to different embassies for visa issuance.
“The embezzlement runs into millions of rupees and we have decided to trace it back over the last several years by involving FIA and Anti-Corruption Department,” says Faud Ishaq, President SCCI.
Addressing a press conference here at SCCI on Thursday, Faud Ishaq said presently a gang of three employees including Ex. Secretary SCCI, Sajjad Aziz, Ex. Deputy Secretary SCCI, Nasir Khan and Amjad Ali, Visa Facilitation Officer are found involved in the financial scandal.
Thorough investigation into the fraud by FIA and Anti-Corruption will unearth involvement of more persons into the fraud, he claims.
Sharing details of embezzlement, President SCCI said initial probe uncovers stealing of 47 percent of e-bills during the last six months. In the year 2023, around 472 misappropriated e-bills have been detected involving huge amount in millions of ruppes.
SCCI has recovered an amount of Rs. Five million from Amjad Hussain and he is willing to cooperate in return of further amount, Faud claims.
The gang of three, Faud Ishaq continued, was involved in issuance of recommendation letters for visa issuance to different traders by using fake stamp, letter heads and signatures.
The online payment as visa fees was going directly into the account maintained by Sajjad Aziz, Secretary SCCI, Faud alleged.
He said the bank receipts issued to visa applicants were also bogus, bearing fake stamps and signatures of SCCI’s office bearers.
Recovery of fake documents found that an amount of Rs. 50,000 was charged for issuance of visa letter from Afghanistan while the official fee is Rs. 10,000.
Faud said there were whispers of fraud by some employees of SCCI, but due to lack of any credible evidence, no action was taken. However, a recent development of black listing of SCCI by Chinese Embassy raise alarm bells and probe started into the matter by involving IT experts who detected misuse of online account of SCCI, he told journalists.
A six member inquiry committee has also been constituted to investigate the scam, share details with FIA and Anti-Corruption department. The committee is head by President SCCI, Faud Ishaq.
He said presently two employees including Sajjad Aziz and Nasir Khan have been suspended. While Amjad had resigned from his post on December 31, 2023.
These employees will be sacked from their services after completion of the inquiry besides recovery of the pilferage amount. Faud Ishaq said according to bank details of Sajjad Aziz, there are around Rs. 16.8 million found in his account. While he has more than two account in different banks which will also be checked and transactions will be verified.
Investigation also found involvement of several VISA agents who were in contact with these employees of SCCI.
About black listing of SCCI by Chinese embassy, SCCI President said he has sent a letter and is seeking appointment for meeting with the envoy to share details and action by SCCI against the culprits.
President SCCI said a foolproof financial transaction system would be introduced to ensure prevention of any such activity in future.
In response to a question, Faud Ishaq held out assurance of taking strict action against anyone found involved in this financial scam of SCCI.

PHA kicked off trees plantation drive

MULTAN, Apr 25 (APP):Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) launched tree- plantation drive under Green Future vision and fruit trees being planted at various places of the city.
Director General PHA Asif Rauf Khan planted dozens of fruit trees including guava and pomegranate at Kalma Chowk here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, DG MDA said that the green belts of the city were being made greener under supervision of Commissioner Multan division Maryam Khan. He said that they were following the Punjab Chief Minister’s Green vision. He further said that the birds and human beings would get food from pomegranate and guava trees.
He said that the trees were also being planted at other places of the city under the Green vision.

Chief Minister KP to open Inter-Madrasa, Special Games on April 30

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP): Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur will formally inaugurate the third Inter-Madrasa Games and Games for the Person with Different Abilities here at Hayatabad Sports Complex on April 30, 2024.
A total of 800 players will participate in the games and the official inauguration will be made by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, Director Operation Aziz Ullah Khan told media men here. Deputy Director Operation Jamshed Baloch, Director Account Shah Faisal were also present.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-Madrasas and Games for Person with Different Abilities to be organized by Directorate General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will start on April 30.
He said, 400 madrasa students from Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Hazara and Swat regions would participated in cricket, volleyball and football, while 400 Persons with Different Abilities would participate in Boche, wheelchair cricket, standing cricket, badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, basketball.
A total prize money of Rs 1 million has been fixed for the Games to be awarded. Director Sports Operations Azizullah and Deputy Director Jamshed Baloch said that on the special instructions of the adviser of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Fakhar Jahan Games would be organized in befitting manners.
These games are being organized for which Additional Director General Sports Rashida Ghaznavi has been appointed as the Organizing Secretary, Zawar Noor for Person with Different Abilities, Zardad Bulbul for Games for Special Person would be facilitated.
Habibullah for Blind Cricket, Parvez Khan for Madrasa Cricket, Faisal Javed for football and Wasifullah for volleyball have been appointed as organizers. They said that various events will be held at Hayatabad Sports Complex, cricket matches will be held at Islamia College Ground and Board Ground, Persons with different abilities including Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired and Low-Status Persons would also be organized.
The purpose of the games is to provide positive entertainment and opportunities for students and for persons with Different Abilities to express their talents so that they too can progress. In response to a question, they said that organizing the games will bring out players with the best skills for the provincial and national teams.

Commissioner for stopping salaries of 800 govt employees for refusing polio drops to children

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP):Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud on Thursday issued orders to stop the salaries of as many as 800 government officials who refused to administer polio drops to their children.
He issued the orders while presiding over the meeting of the divisional task force regarding the anti-polio campaign that would start on April 29.
He said that the dissident parents should be convinced by prevailing Jirga system in the province and for the purpose the Patwaris were assigned duties to do so.
The commissioner said that now time has come to be decisive against crippling polio disease by implementing stick and carrot policy, adding that the officials to be found guilty of negligence during the campaign would be dealt with strictly.
He directed all the administrative officers of Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand, and Khyber District, as well as District Police Officers, District Health Officers, Revenue Officers, Municipal Officers and related institutions to ensure vaccination of each and every child under the age of five.
The meeting also took important decisions for the success of polio and the security of polio workers.
The commissioner announced that he would directly supervise the campaign and issue orders for strict disciplinary action against the negligent officials.

UET holds conference on adoption of biogas technology

PESHAWAR, Apr 25 (APP): A Day-long national conference on Biogas Technologies, organized by the U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E), UET Peshawar was held here on Thursday.
The conference was aimed at creating awareness on using the biogas plants as a sustainable energy source and foster collaborative efforts among government, private organizations and communities for promotion of adoption of biogas technology in Pakistan.
The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali said, due to environmental degradation and rapid climate change, researchers are engaged in finding sustainable practices. In this regard, biogas technology is useful in not only meeting the energy demand but also saving natural resources.
“Since Pakistan is an agricultural country and has a high potential for producing energy through biogas technology, the conference is taking place at the right time to discuss the possibilities for collaborations and exploiting modern technologies in the field.
The speakers included Dr. Abdul Sattar Nizami from Government College University Lahore (GCUL), Mian Arif, CEO Revgreen– Lahore, Engr. Muhammad Saeed, Operations Manager WSSP and Engr. Masood Ahmad, Panache Construction, Mehmood Ahmad, Senior Agricultural Engineer from the Department of Agriculture, Mirpur Azad Kashmir and Muhammad Siddique, CEO of Creeco (Pvt) Ltd, who spoke on different aspects of biogas and its modern applications.
The conference also conducted a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Zoahib-ur-Rehman Afridi, which recommended Government and industry collaboration for promoting the biogas technologies across KP, thereby paving the way for a more sustainable energy landscape.
Prof. Dr. Syed Waqar Shah, Dean Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Adnan Dawood, Director (USPCAS-E), Dr. Nasru Minallah, Director (ORIC) and a large number of senior faculty, students and guests also attended the conference.

Panel of Presiding officers announced for 337th Senate session
