Zartaj discusses smog-related issues, strategies with Usman Buzdar

LAHORE, Dec 6 (APP):Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gull called on Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office on Friday and discussed smog related issue and strategies for overcoming environmental pollution.

Speaking on this occasion, the chief minister regretted that the past governments aggravated political pollution through their corruption and spate of nepotism.

Air pollution was increased by erecting tangled building infrastructures. Today, cities are polluted due to the wrong policies of the past regimes, he added.

He said that urban forest stations would be set up at an area of 60,000 kanals in Lahore.
The chief minister said steel rolling industries and brick-kilns were being transferred to zigzag technology and added that a deadline of 2020 has been given in this regard.

Usman Buzdar said the campaign of overcoming environmental pollution and smog had been further expedited and maintained that Punjab Green Development Programme at a cost of $273 million would prove a game-changer.

He said that 30 new air quality monitoring stations would be set up in Punjab as overcoming the phenomenon of environmental degradation was essential.

The Punjab government has also constituted a task force to deal with the smog issue through a comprehensive strategy.
