ISLAMABAD, Jun 18 (APP):In a vibrant celebration of inclusion, dialogue and creativity, the National Peace Festival has begun at the National Skills University here Wednesday, uniting more than 150 young peace advocates from all corners of Pakistan. In a three-day event that runs until June 20 and organized by the Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness (SFEA), marked a significant milestone in empowering youth to combat violent extremism and foster peace.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Wajiha Qamar emphasized the need for a unified national peace narrative, urging youth to leverage digital platforms constructively. She said, “We must all unite to promote a national peace narrative that transcends political divisions saying despite our differences, we stand as one for our beloved country”. She stated that peace was not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, empathy and shared values. She urged young leaders to harness digital platforms constructively, promoting positivity and countering misinformation to foster a culture of peace and tolerance in Pakistan.
Chairperson of SFEA, Syed Ali Hameed reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive peace building, stating, “events like the National Peace Festival show what’s possible when young people lead noting eace is a continuous journey requiring all segments of society.”
Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of National Skills University, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar added, “Peace begins within. Collaborative efforts are key to fostering understanding, nonviolence, and respect.”
UNODC Advisor, Dr. Arsalan Zaidee highlighted the importance of youth engagement and innovative approaches like youth-led social enterprises to sustain peace building.
It is noteworthy that the festival featured dynamic activities, including a Peace Forum, Institutional Leadership Panel, and creative competitions in speech, digital poster design, poetry, and live painting. The National Peace Festival underscored the growing momentum of youth-led peace initiatives, with revitalized Peace Societies and creative platforms paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient Pakistan. Over 80 students participated, using art and storytelling to express their vision for peace. The “Peace Societies Experience Sharing” session showcased student-led solutions driving behavioral change and collective action. The event concluded with a “Music for Peace” performance and awards ceremony, celebrating youth agency and unity.
