ISLAMABAD, Sept 20 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security Lt Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua Tuesday said the world has failed to correct a “historical wrong” in Kashmir in good time.
He was speaking at a day long seminar on “Kashmir Scenario and The World Conscience” held at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Research and Analysis (ISSRA) at National Defence University (NDU) here.
He said, “Kashmir exposes the mysterious and callous silence of dumb and numb international community.”
The Advisor said India has tried to mitigate the legality of
United Nations resolution by complicating it with Simla Agreement and today is trying to hide behind it not by way of morality but by way of high handedness and pursuing of inconsiderate and oppressive approaches.
He said Kashmir is not an issue of territory or piece of land or security, it is rather a humanitarian issue and about right to life and self-determination.
It is an issue of age long identity crises which cannot be
dampened by development and deceitful dialogue, he added.
He said there is dire need for the world’s community to
intervene for the sake of peace and stability of the region.
The settlement of dispute must be ensured by peaceful means and according to the UN resolution which would not only end the perpetual miseries of Kashmiris and fulfill their cherished aspirations but it will remove the perpetual cause of conflict between the two nuclear states, Janjua remarked.
He reiterated, “Kashmir runs in our blood and is our jugular
vein.”
President NDU Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt said Kashmir is in fact a matter of the people’s right to make a choice about their own destiny and it should not be viewed from the narrow prism of a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan.
He also highlighted the role of NDU as a premier institution
of learning and research.
The seminar was organized in three sessions and the first
session was focused on “People’s Aspirations and International Legitimacy” which was chaired by Senator Sherry Rehman while Ejaz Haider and Ahmer Bilal Soofi were the speakers.
The second session was on “Human Rights and Project Endeavour” and was chaired by Senator Raja Zafarul Haq and the speakers included Ghulam Muhammad Safi and Dr Moeed Pirzada.
The last session was chaired by Dr Attiya Inayatullah while
ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and ambassador Inaam ul Haque were the speakers.
The seminar was attended by a number of civil and military
dignitaries.
