ISLAMABAD, Sep 6 (APP):Advisor to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Khan has said that the tree plantation drive ‘ ‘Plant4Pakistan’ is not only being lauded within the country but also getting recognition at international level.
Amin Aslam, in a statement here Thursday, said the World Economic Forum, while appreciating Pakistan’s tsunami tree plantation drive, had uploaded a short motivational video at Twitter from their official handle, asking other countries to follow that plantation model to counter the hazards of global warming and other climate changes.
Video states that Pakistan is one of those six countries, which are most affected by global warming. Forest area of Pakistan is between 2-5% but according to the recommendation of the United Nations, it should be at least 12% of the total area and a massive tree plantation is a step in the right direction.
The World Economic Forum, in the video, also explained that trees not only cool down the cities but also remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Apart from producing oxygen, trees also help reduce soil erosion. At the end of the video, WEF asked the other countries to follow the suit to save the planet from environmental hazards.
Malik Amin Aslam Khan, while commenting on the video, said the project of ten billion tsunami tree plantation was an embodiment of real change which Prime Minister Imran Khan had promised and could be seen on the ground. “Such encouragement give more impetus to our resolve and we are committed to continue this drive with more passion and determination.”
