ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (APP):Women with disabilities have called on relevant stakeholders to establish dedicated hostel facilities to ensure safe and affordable accommodation for them.
Talking to APP on Monday, Zainab Bibi, a teacher, said women with disabilities continue to face significant challenges in accessing private female hostels and shelter homes. She emphasized that the government must take concrete measures to provide them with appropriate living facilities.
Arifa Waheed, a rights activist for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), highlighted that not a single woman with a disability is currently residing in any government-run hostel in the federal capital. She added that despite paying high rents, working women with disabilities are forced to endure substandard conditions, including inadequate food, laundry services, washrooms, and security.
A Human Rights Ministry official, when contacted, acknowledged the issue and stated that the government may consider establishing and maintaining proper hostel facilities specifically designed for persons with disabilities.
The women with disabilities hope that immediate action will be taken to address these longstanding concerns and ensure dignified living conditions for them.
