ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP): Ministry of Human Rights is actively pursuing the Women in Distress and Detention Fund and hopefully it would be functional in a month.

Secretary Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) Nadeem Ashraf told APP that the matter was pending due to some official and technical matters as the MOHR got the status of independent ministry few month back.

Earlier, it was working as part of Ministry of Law and Justice
and so few legal matters needed to be addressed which halted the functioning of the fund, he told APP.

It is pertinent to mention here that the fund was established
in 1996 (20 years back) for the financial assistance of vulnerable women of the country facing severe challenges.

The ministry holds an amount of more than Rs. 46 million under this fund but not a single penny has been given to any women till now.

The Federal Minister for Human Rights Kamran Michael after
assuming his charge announced that they would purse it on priority and made it functional settling all the matters.
