ISLAMABAD, Apr 06 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Monday forecast widespread intermittent rain-windstorm and thunderstorms across large parts of the country on Tuesday, with chances of heavy falls and hailstorms at isolated locations.
According to the Met Office, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Kashmir are expected to receive widespread rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, while partly cloudy weather with isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in northeastern Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The department has issued multiple warnings regarding heavy rainfall that may trigger flash floods in local nullahs of northeastern Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan tonight. Similar conditions are expected on April 7 and 8 in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree and Galiyat, where landslides are also likely in hilly areas.
Urban flooding is anticipated in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot during the same period.
The PMD cautioned that windstorms, hailstorms and lightning could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including electric poles, billboards and solar panels, while standing crops in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also be affected.
In Islamabad and adjoining areas, cloudy weather with intermittent rain and thunderstorms is expected, with chances of heavy downpours and hailstorms.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to witness widespread rain and thunderstorms, with snowfall over mountainous regions including Chitral, Swat, Dir and Kohistan, along with heavy falls at a few places.
Punjab is also expected to receive widespread rain-thunderstorms across most districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan, with heavy falls and hailstorms likely in the Pothohar region and western parts of the province.
In contrast, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain dry, while Balochistan will experience partly cloudy to dry weather, with chances of rain and thunderstorms at isolated locations including Quetta, Zhob and Ziarat.
Kashmir is forecast to receive intermittent rain with heavy falls and hailstorms, whereas Gilgit-Baltistan will see partly cloudy conditions with light rain at isolated places.
Over the past 24 hours, mainly dry weather prevailed across the country, though isolated rain-wind thunderstorms were recorded in north Balochistan, south Punjab and Kashmir. The highest rainfall was recorded in Murree (14mm) and Kalat (12mm).
The highest maximum temperature recorded was 36 C in Shaheed Benazirabad, while other cities including Sakrand, Pasni and Mithi recorded 35 C.
The Met Office has advised authorities and the public to take precautionary measures in view of the expected severe weather conditions.
