Uzbek president conferred honorary PhD degree, professorship title by Pakistani varsity

ISLAMABAD, Feb 5 (APP): The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on Thursday conferred the honorary degree of doctorate of philosophy and title of professorship on the President of Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in recognition to his extraordinary leadership and contributions to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

During a special convocation of the NUST organized here at the Prime Minister House, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Rector NUST, Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif officially conferred the honorary PhD degree and the title of professorship on President Mirziyoyev.

Reading out the citation, the registrar NUST said the honorary degree and the title was awarded in recognition to the Uzbek President’s exceptional contributions towards fostering strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan and promoting peace and development in the region.

He added that the Government of Pakistan has decided to confer the honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) and honorary title of Professorship on the President of Uzbekistan.

He said that universities as custodian of knowledge and innovation have long honoured the leaders whose vision and commitments to progress have shaped the development of their nations and contributed to the advancement of the humanity.

In this tradition, the NUST recognizes the individuals whose leadership embodies the value of education, scientific inquiry and international cooperation, he said, adding, “The president of Uzbekistan stands among such exceptional leaders and since assuming office he has guided Uzbekistan through a transformative period of political, economic and social reforms; placing knowledge, innovation and human development at the center of national development. His vision of new Uzbekistan has accelerated modernization, digital transformation, and sustainable growth while strengthening the country’s scientific and education institutions.”

Through the leadership of the president, Uzbekistan has significantly made investments in higher education, research and innovation and he has championed the modernization of universities, promoted academic excellence and fostered closer collaborations among government, academia and industry, he added.
