US embassy to provide support in education, allied sector

ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): Minister Counselor for Public Affairs of the
Embassy of United States Ms Crestina on Wednesday said the US embassy would provide every possible support in the field of education and allied sector.
She was talking to Minister of State for Capital Administration and
Development Division (CADD), Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry in a meeting held here on Wednesday. Both discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of education and establishing reading corners and library in the city.
Ms Crestina said the embassy had helped establishing 18 reading corners in Pakistan, five of which were in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The ministry of CADD sought embassy’s support in providing technical
assistance in professional development of teachers and restructuring of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
It also sought embassy’s support in establishing a public library in
Islamabad for which land was available with CADD. The library would provide wide range of printed and electronic reading material for the requirements of readers of all ages.
The minister apprised the delegation about the special interventions
of the government to revamp the education system in Capital and positive results emerging from these interventions.
He said CADD intended to institutionalize the teachers training under FDE for their professional development so that they may impart better
quality education to their students.
The Advisor of CADD on education Ali Raza added that a performance
based appraisal system for assessment of teachers was being prepared which included a set of key performance indicators for evaluation of teachers’ work and incentivize their career.
He said under the revamping and re-structuring of FDE, CADD was
focusing on teachers’ training, professional development of public managers of education and curriculum review.
The new curriculum, which would be based upon modern researches on education would encourage critical thinking among students, he added.
He informed that under the Prime Minister’s Education Reform Program,
CADD was upgrading 22 schools in the first phase by constructing additional facilities in
these schools. In the second phase 200 more schools would be upgraded.
