LAHORE, Apr 30 (APP):US Consul General to Lahore Colleen
Crenwelge said on Tuesday the United States was committed to
work for the empowerment of Pakistani youth and make them
skillful and able human beings.
Talking to APP at the launching ceremony of ‘English Works’:
English language Teaching Program by American Consulate at a
local hotel, she said that some other vocational training
programmes besides English learning programmes were also being
run under the USAID in Punjab.
As many as 125 students between 15-25 years of age had been
selected to attend a six-month training workshop held in collaboration
with TEVTA and LIFE. Public Affairs Officer American Consulate Michael Guinan was also present.
About involving seminaries’ students in the workshops, she
said it had been the goal to involve people from all walks of life
in English Speaking workshops as these enable them to enhance
language skills which was so vital in getting jobs.
Earlier, addressing the audience, the US diplomat said: “In
Punjab, the United States is funding almost 1400 Pakistani young
men and women in seven cities and I am confident the students
who are participating in the programmes will learn the language,
improve their critical learning and leadership skills that are
so essential in today’s job-market.”
She thanked the TEVTA for being a valuable partner in the English
Works programme, adding thousands of students had benefitted from
the English language teaching programmes by the consulate.
Crenwelge congratulated the students who had been selected for
the English Works programme, adding that it would make the most of
the opportunity during the 6 months of training and would become
useful citizens.
The Consul general Colleen Crenwelge also gave away certificates
among brilliant students.
