LARKANA, Nov 05 (APP):A meeting regarding the upcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) campaign was held on Wednesday at the Commissioner’s Office, Larkana, under the chairmanship of Commissioner Larkana Division, Tahir Hussain Sangi.
Briefing the meeting, Dr. Shahid H. Khokhar, Divisional Officer EPI Larkana, informed that the campaign will be conducted from November 17 to 29, targeting children aged six months to five years.
He said the meeting was a follow-up to the provincial review meeting and added that the micro plan has been finalized and implemented, while training of teams has already been completed.
Dr. Shahid further briefed that 400 measles cases have been reported in Larkana Division this year, with 170 cases in Larkana, 105 in Qambar, 84 in Shikarpur, 66 in Jacobabad, and 43 in Kashmore. He noted that three deaths were recorded — two in Qambar and one in Jacobabad.
He informed that the 13-day campaign will cover 1,190 union councils across Sindh, where 8.4 million children will be vaccinated at schools and in the field through mobile teams, fixed points, and health facilities.
For the success of the campaign, line departments, district administration, religious leaders, people’s representatives, and the media will be engaged to ensure maximum coverage.
Commissioner Larkana Tahir Hussain Sangi directed all departments to work in close coordination for the smooth execution of the campaign.
He emphasized that all issues should be resolved prior to the launch of the drive. He also instructed the police department to ensure the security of vaccination teams and directed the district education officers and directors of private schools to extend full cooperation.
The meeting was attended by focal persons of PPHI and EPI, district health officers, and representatives of various departments.
