Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon bids farewell to United Nations

MIRPUR (AJK), Aug 21 (APP): Political leaders, analysts and civil society representatives, including social and human rights activists of AJK on Sunday lauded United Nations Secretary General (UN) Ban Ki Moon for offering to facilitate talks between Pakistan and India for the settlement of the Kashmir issue.
The UN Secretary General, in response to the letter of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif drawing his attention to the ongoing Indian brutalities on the people of occupied Kashmir, on August 12 offered to facilitate holding dialogue between the two neighbouring countries for the resolution of the lingering Kashmir issue.
Ban Ki Moon also deplored loss of human lives in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).
Commenting on the response of Ban Ki Moon, Vice Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir National Front (JKNF) Altaf Hussain Wani said it was encouraging that the UN Secretary General was concerned about the worst human rights situation in IOK and his willingness to help end Indian brutalities.
Wani said since India had always rejected such offer for facilitation, it was time for the UN Secretary General to play the due role for the early settlement of the Kashmir issue as per the world body’s resolutions.
He reiterated Kashmiris’ demand for early holding of plebiscite in the state under the spirit of the UN resolutions providing an opportunity to them to decide about their destiny.
