ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (APP):UN-Habitat joined diplomatic and development partners at the National Day and Armed Forces Day reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Islamabad, reaffirming its appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s longstanding support to vulnerable communities in Pakistan.
Representing UN-Habitat, Hamid Mumtaz Khan, Deputy Programme Manager, attended the event and met with Han Sungho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, highlighting the strong partnership between Korea and Pakistan and the valuable contributions of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), said a message received here on Thursday.
During the engagement, Mumtaz recalled KOICA’s support through UN-Habitat for conflict-affected and displaced communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Beginning in 2011, the partnership helped families rebuild their lives through recovery, resettlement, and community development initiatives across Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, and Swat.
The programme restored essential infrastructure, including water supply systems, roads, schools, and community facilities, while also creating livelihood opportunities and strengthening local capacities. Many of these investments continue to benefit communities today.
“The partnership between KOICA and UN-Habitat demonstrated Korea’s commitment to supporting the people of Pakistan during a critical period. The positive impact of those interventions remains visible today, and communities continue to benefit from the facilities, services, and opportunities created through that support,” said Mumtaz.
The reception provided an opportunity to celebrate the enduring partnership between the Republic of Korea, KOICA, and UN-Habitat, while exploring future collaboration to promote resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities across Pakistan.
