UK, Pakistan to further strengthen trade collaboration

ISLAMABAD, May 23 (APP):The United Kingdom and Pakistan welcomed the recent increase in the volume of bilateral trade and vowed to further boost the existing trade collaboration between the two countries.
The Acting High Commissioner Richard Crowder and Deputy Trade Director Matt Lister from the British High Commission met with President Malik Tahir Javaid and Secretary General Shahid Khalil of the Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry to discuss the bilateral trade collaboration between the two countries said a message received here on Wednesday.
The bilateral trade between the countries stood at £2.7 billion in 2016; however, they agreed that this figure should rise further in the future.
They agreed on the scope for growth in sectors such as finance, legal and business services and Information Technology and discussed the importance of reforms to make Pakistan an easier and more attractive destination for businesses.
Deputy High Commissioner Richard Crowder said, “Pakistan is South Asia’s second largest economy with a growing middle class and close ties to the UK.  And the UK is Pakistan’s largest export market in Europe.”
He said, “As the UK leaves the EU, we want to deepen our economic relationship with Pakistan, with more trade and investment flowing in both directions.”
