17 killed, 57 injured as trains collide: DS

KARACHI, Nov 3 (APP): At least 17 people were killed and about 57 others were injured as two trains collided near Karachi on Thursday.
This was stated by the Divisional Superintendent (DS), Pakistan Railways Karachi Division, Nisar Ahmed Memon.

The Farid Express bound for Karachi, was stationary at Juma Goth near
Karachi when hit from the rear by Zakariya Express which was also heading for Karachi.

The dead and injured were taken to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical
Centre (JPMC) Karachi.

Memon said that one track has been cleared and the Awam Express has
left Karachi for Peshawar.

He further stated that the railway traffic would be normalized in a
couple of hours’ time.

He said the Ministry of Railways has ordered an inquiry into the
accident.The federal government Inspector for Railways would reach here on Thursday to initiate the inquiry, he added.

Commissioner Karachi, Ejaz Ahmed Khan told media persons that the
rescue work has been completed. He pointed out that there was no delay in the rescue work.
