Tree plantation drive to be launched in Sindh
ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (APP):Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Dr. Musadik Malik and Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Tuesday agreed to launch a province-wide tree plantation drive and Urban Forest Programme in Sindh.
The two leaders reached the agreement during a meeting held at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, where they discussed the environmental situation in Sindh, afforestation, climate resilience, environmental protection and other matters of mutual interest.
They also decided to launch a special Independence Day campaign, to enhance green cover, improve air quality and strengthen climate resilience.
Governor Sindh appreciated the Ministry’s efforts under the leadership of Senator Dr. Musadik Malik to address climate change and strengthen environmental protection.
He stressed that close cooperation between the federal government and the provinces was essential to effectively tackle growing environmental challenges.
The minister also endorsed Governor Hashmi’s proposal to launch a special Independence Day Tree Plantation Campaign across the province, saying that planting trees was an investment in a safer, greener and more sustainable future for coming generations.
The two leaders further agreed to consult the Federal Minister for Railways on developing Urban Forests along railway corridors, particularly in Karachi, to create green corridors and support climate-resilient infrastructure.
Governor Hashmi invited Dr. Musadik Malik to visit the Governor House in Karachi and deliver lectures to university students on climate change, environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The minister accepted the invitation and reaffirmed his commitment to raising environmental awareness among youth and encouraging their active participation in climate action.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the country’s overall political situation.
Both leaders emphasized the need for national unity, political harmony and stability, agreeing that all stakeholders should work together in the larger national interest.
Senator Dr. Musadik Malik also paid tribute to Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi for his longstanding political struggle, public service and contributions to national politics, describing his role as valuable and commendable.
