Top position holder Pakistani students visit High Commission in UK

ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP): A 30-member group of top position
holding students of graduation level from all over Pakistan visited
Pakistan’s High Commission in London.

The group comprised high achievers, several of them were world
record holders in various academic subjects at O Level and A Level,
said a press release received here Friday.

Welcoming the students, Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High
Commissioner to the UK, congratulated them on their academic
achievements.

He hoped that their interaction with a host of public and
private institutions in the UK would be rewarding.

The High Commissioner appreciated the vision of Chief Minister
Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for sending the students to visit
foreign educational institutions and get deeper understanding of
diverse cultures.

He urged the students to make most of this opportunity to
enrich their learning experience, especially in the age of the
Internet which has transcended the geographical barriers.

The Deputy High Commissioner and the Minister Political also
briefed the students about the opportunities offered by the British
Chevening scholarships and the Commonwealth scholarships.

The Government of Punjab has undertaken this initiative to
familiarize the bright and promising students from all over
Pakistan, with the leading educational institutions of the European
countries. The objective is to encourage them to pursue education at
the world’s leading academic institutions.

The visit will also introduce the youth of Pakistan to the cutting edge technologies and academic practices in the Western World.

The group, during their three-week stay in the UK will be visiting prestigious academic institutions in the UK including Oxford University, Cambridge University, London School of Economics, Strathclyde University and Glasgow University amongst others, where they will get exposure to contemporary teaching methods in the UK.

The students also visited the British Parliament and have plans to visit some leading media houses in the UK.

After the UK, the group will be visiting universities in Germany and Sweden. The students are accompanied by Dr. Tahira Sikander, Principal, Government Girls College Lahore and Shahid Iqbal, Additional Secretary, Chief Minister’s Secretariat Punjab.

The High Commissioner gave away mementos to the students at
the end. The students also interacted with officers of the High
Commission and representatives of the media.
