Thar Coal railways connectivity project to boost local energy, economy
ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP): Director General Frontier Works Organization (FWO), Major General Abdul Samad, along with his team on Monday called on Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and discussed progress on the Thar Coal railway connectivity project.
During the meeting, the FWO team briefed the minister in detail on the ongoing construction work, progress on the project and measures being taken to ensure its timely completion.
Under the project, a 105-kilometre new railways line was being constructed from the Thar coal mines to New Chhor.
The project also included around nine kilometres of double-track railways from Bin Qasim to Port Qasim, along with facilities for unloading coal.
The railways connectivity project would link Thar’s indigenous coal with the national railways network and Port Qasim, enabling faster, safer and more cost-effective transportation of coal.
The successful completion of the project was expected to help reduce the country’s dependence on imported coal and promote the utilization of indigenous resources, thereby contributing to energy security and economic growth.
