Tent pegging to take centre stage at Islamabad tourism festival

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Tent pegging, one of Pakistan’s most popular traditional sports, will be the main attraction at the Pakistan Tourism, Sports and Family Festival being organised by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) from January 31 to February 1 in Islamabad.
According to organisers, the two-day festival will be held at F-9 Park and the Islamabad Sports Complex with the aim of promoting Pakistan’s positive image, tourism and family-oriented recreation.
However, the highlight of the event will be the tent pegging competitions scheduled for January 31 at F-9 Park, in which more than 50 teams from across the country are expected to participate.
For the first time, the Al-Buraq Tent Pegging Club will also take part in the competition.
The club will be represented by lady riders Zamal Qaisrani and Manahil Qaisrani, along with Nauman Khalid, Chaudhry Aftab Palaak, Rana Ahmad Nawaz Kalu, Ibrahim and others.
The Al-Khayyam Club team will include Malik Ibtisam, Hassan Raza Cheema, Humayun Gondal and Nauman Ali.
The tent pegging contests are being organised under the patronage of former deputy mayor Islamabad Syed Zeeshan Naqvi.
Talking to APP, the organisers said the competitions would be a major attraction for spectators and would play an important role in promoting Pakistan’s traditional sports.
Besides tent pegging, the festival will feature car and bike shows, paragliding, cultural performances, regional food stalls, music and various family entertainment activities.
Citizens and tourists have been invited to attend in large numbers to witness the traditional sport and take part in the broader festival activities.
