The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday reported that water storage at Tarbela and Mangla dams remained high amid the ongoing monsoon season, with Tarbela holding 97.94 per cent of its storage capacity and Mangla 62.99pc, as the authority reviewed reservoir levels to assess the country’s water and flood situation and support timely preparedness measures.
Tarbela dam’s storage nears full capacity as monsoon intensifies
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday reported that water storage at Tarbela and Mangla dams remained high amid the ongoing monsoon season, with Tarbela holding 97.94 per cent of its storage capacity and Mangla 62.99pc, as the authority reviewed reservoir levels to assess the country’s water and flood situation and support timely preparedness measures.
According to the latest assessment by the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the water level at Tarbela Dam stood at 1,548 feet, with storage recorded at 97.94pc. The corresponding storage level during the same period last year was 95.98pc.
At Mangla Dam, the water level was recorded at 1,205.2 feet, with storage at 62.99pc, compared with 62.80pc during the same period last year.
The latest figures were came as the monsoon season was continuing to bring increased rainfall and rising water flows across parts of the country.
The NDMA is maintaining close monitoring of reservoir levels and river flows and providing timely information and alerts to relevant authorities to strengthen preparedness against potential flooding.
