Tahir Andrabi bids farewell as FO spox; Sajjad Haider Khan assumes charge

ISLAMABAD, Sep 02 (APP): Marking his final appearance as Foreign Office spokesperson before assuming his new assignment as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Tahir Andrabi on Wednesday formally handed over charge to Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan.

At his final weekly press briefing, Andrabi expressed deep gratitude for the support received during his tenure and reflected on the strong professional relationships and long-lasting friendships built with the diplomatic press corps.

Outlining his upcoming responsibilities, Andrabi noted that in Geneva he will represent Pakistan across major multilateral organisations, including the UN Human Rights Council, UNHCR, OCHA, WHO, ILO, WIPO, UNCTAD, WMO, and the World Economic Forum.

Highlighting an immediate priority, he pointed out that Pakistan currently holds the presidency of the UN Conference on Disarmament (CD). Having chaired its proceedings, he will preside over the concluding sessions in Geneva next week and subsequently present the CD’s annual report and draft resolution to the UN General Assembly in New York, with Pakistan’s presidency running through December this year.

Concluding the briefing, Andrabi thanked journalists for their sustained cooperation and expressed full confidence in Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan’s ability to lead the spokesperson’s office with professional distinction.
