ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar held a meeting with a delegation of senior journalists associated with various television channels, print and electronic media outlets at Parliament House, Islamabad.
The meeting provided an opportunity for a detailed exchange of views on issues confronting the journalist community, the prevailing political situation in the country, and the role and responsibilities of the media.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar said that the government was taking all possible measures to address issues faced by the people, while practical efforts were continuing at various levels to provide relief to the public.
He said efforts were also underway at the government level to address the issues faced by the journalist community.
He added that Parliament had also undertaken legislation concerning journalists and media-related matters.
The Deputy Chairman emphasized that journalism constitutes an important pillar of the state, while journalists serve as a vital bridge between the people and the government. He said the media plays a significant role in informing the public about government initiatives, public welfare programmes and measures being undertaken for the country’s future.
Syedaal Khan Nasar observed that, alongside traditional media, social media had assumed unprecedented importance in the present era. He stressed that all segments of society must play their respective roles for the country’s progress, development and prosperity.
The Deputy Chairman urged journalists to ensure the dissemination of verified and fact-based news and to refrain from promoting false propaganda, unverified information or content contrary to facts against any individual or institution.
He said that while social media offered numerous benefits, its irresponsible use could also have negative consequences. Every individual, he added, had a responsibility to avoid sharing or disseminating content that could undermine the dignity, honour or reputation of any person.
Syedaal Khan Nasar stressed that responsible journalism, constructive criticism and the promotion of factual information were essential in the broader interest of society and the country.
