Supremacy of parliament crucial for establishment of law: Sindh Governor

KARACHI, Apr 02 (APP):There is no individual or institution above the constitution of the country, said Governor of Sindh,
Muhammad Zubair here on Monday.
Addressing a seminar “Rule of Law and Parliamentary Supremacy”
organized by Muslim League – Sindh’s youth wing, he emphasized that
supremacy of parliament is, however, extremely crucial for
the establishment of law in the country.
“Democracy is the panacea for all ills in the country and its
sustainability is in accordance with the whims of masses keen to have a
public welfare state,” said the Sindh Governor.
He appreciated that all political parties in the country are on
one page with regard to rule of law, supremacy of parliament and
strengthening of democratic institutions.
“It is due to absolute commitment, sacrifices and joint struggle
of all stakeholders that democracy could not be disrupted in the
country for past several years,” he said.
Reminding that Pakistan itself was established through the power
of vote and on the basis of democratic norms, Sindh Governor regretted
that in the consequent years sections with vested interest played
havoc with the fate of nation.
“Fortunately in the present day Pakistan concerted efforts are
being made to strengthen and streamline the principles of democracy,”
he said mentioning that each and every political party in their
respective manifestos hold democracy supreme.
Emphasizing that this was a good omen for the country, he said
political parties firmly believe that parliament is the sole
institution empowered by the masses to frame laws and get the same
implemented through institutions endorsed under the constitution.
It is under the very spirit that democratic set ups at federal
and provincial levels are trying to realize their obligations towards
the masses, he said.
With particular reference to the federal government, Sindh Governor
said PML(N) had assumed power under very difficult conditions,
however, during past five years not only focused on essential
legislation but also helped country overcome the power crisis and
putting back to track the precarious economic conditions.
The seminar was also addressed by Raja Ansari, Advocate Yasin
Azad, Shah Muhammad Shah and Mirza Ishtiaq Baig.
