ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): A tree plantation activity was held at Shaheen Chowk in Sector F-8 to raise awareness among students about environmental protection and the role of trees in daily life.
The activity was organized by the Environment Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration.
Students and teachers from two major universities took part, aiming to promote shared responsibility for protecting natural resources in the federal capital.
The plantation drive saw active participation from students and faculty members of Bahria University and the National Defence University (NDU). The participants planted saplings and received brief guidance on how trees support clean air, public health, and urban balance. Officials present at the site said the activity was arranged to connect young people with practical steps for environmental care.
According to organizers, the main purpose of the drive was to inform students about the importance of trees and their positive impact on the environment. They said awareness at the student level can help shape long-term habits that support cleaner surroundings and better use of public spaces. The Environment Wing highlighted that tree plantation is part of ongoing efforts to improve green cover in Islamabad.
Students from both universities showed interest throughout the activity. Many took part in planting and discussed ways to support similar initiatives on their campuses. Faculty members guided students and encouraged them to take responsibility for the saplings planted during the drive. Organizers said student involvement was key to the success of the event.
The administrations of Bahria University and NDU appreciated the participation of their students and teachers. They stated that such activities help promote environmental awareness beyond classrooms and allow students to contribute directly to community welfare. University representatives said future cooperation with civic bodies would continue to support similar programs.
Officials from CDA and the ICT Administration said plantation drives are being planned at other locations as well. They added that public participation, especially from educational institutions, plays an important role in protecting the environment. The authorities urged citizens, particularly young people, to take part in plantation activities and care for trees in their surroundings.
The event concluded with a message encouraging students to remain involved in environmental efforts and to spread awareness about the value of trees in urban life.
