Steps underway to resolve problems of newspaper industry

LAHORE, June 5 (APP): Principal Information Officer (PIO) Rao Tehsin Ali Khan has said that government is cognizant of the problems being faced by the newspaper industry and measures are being taken to resolve them.

While addressing the Executive Committee meeting of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), PIO said that the government is not indifferent to print media. It is as important as any other form of media in society.

Tehsin urged print media owners to pay the outstanding dues of workers so that they can contribute in nation building diligently.

He said that government is also working on the mechanism of implementation of wage board.

Executive Committee ensured the PIO that the issues related to payment of workers will be settled down very soon.

Matters related to press freedom and access to information were also discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was attended by APNS President Sarmad Ali, Umar Shami, Munir Jilani, Zia Shahid, DG PID Ijaz Hussain and others.
