State owned enterprises in shambles: Fawad

ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP):Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain in a Tweet on Friday said that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government had inherited key public institutions in shambles.
The minister on his social media account made tweets stating that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had 14,800 permanent and 3,700 daily wage employees, while more than 500 staffers were deployed per jet.
The minister said that the national flag carrier bore financial loss of Rs 45 billion in 2017, whereas the accumulated losses of the airline had been recorded at Rs 356 billion.
He mentioned that Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) had over 17,000 employees and was paying Rs 380 million in salaries per month, whereas the PSM was facing overall losses of Rs 200 billion and the institution was in a state of no profit since 2007.
The message also added Pakistan Television (PTV) possessing 10,000 employees with per annum loss in 2017 upto Rs 2.72 billion, while Rs 7 billion were collected from the consumers of PTV (Rs 32 per person).
The minister criticized deteriorating financial condition of Radio Pakistan and said it had 3900 employees including the 2700 regular and 1200 non-regular employees. Radio Pakistan was paying Rs 1.6 billion to its employees in terms of salaries and it was paying approximately Rs 1 billion in pensions to its retired employees. The yearly losses have stood at Rs 1.25 billion.
Meanwhile, the minister said that Pakistan Railways was also facing overall loss of Rs 147 billion adding that the annual loss of Pakistan Railways was registered at Rs 42 billion with 78,000 employees.
