SSGC to extend gas supply to 261 Sindh villages by 2029
ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) plans to extend gas supply to 261 villages and towns in five Sindh districts by FY2028-29, connecting communities located within a five kilometre radius of gas producing fields through a 684.91-kilometre pipeline network at a combined estimated cost of Rs 5.73 billion, according to official documents.
The four phase plan, covering FY2025-26 to FY2028-29, aims to provide gas connections to 8,914 prospective customers in areas around various producing fields in Sindh.
The fifth phase, scheduled for FY2025-26, covers the Kousar, Tangri and Gambat South fields in Matiari, Tando Mohammed Khan and Sanghar districts.
It envisages gas supply to 88 villages, involving a 179.4km pipeline network and 2,303 prospective customers at an estimated cost of Rs 1.45 billion.
SSGC received Rs 1.326bn during FY2025-26 against third-year/phase schemes for supplying gas to 88 villages falling within a five kilometre radius of gas producing fields.
Detailed engineering surveys have been completed and the schemes are currently under preparation.
The sixth phase, planned for FY2026-27, covers the Bobi and Hassan fields in Sanghar and Shikarpur districts.
It targets 46 villages, with a 178.52 km pipeline network serving 2,710 prospective customers. The estimated cost is Rs1.495 billion.
The seventh phase, scheduled for FY2027-28, includes the Naimat Basal, Jakhoro, Wariyah and Bukhari fields in Sanghar and Tando Mohammed Khan districts.
It will cover 67 villages through a 171.97km pipeline network, with 2,281 prospective customers, at an estimated cost of Rs 1.408 billion.
The eighth phase, planned for FY2028-29, covers the Sanghar East (Naimat ul Basal), Sujawal and Koonj fields in Sanghar, Sujawal and Shikarpur districts.
The phase involves a 155.02km pipeline network for 60 villages and 1,620 prospective customers, at an estimated cost of Rs1.373bn.
Taken together, the four phases will cover 261 villages and towns, 684.91km of pipelines and 8,914 prospective customers, with the total project cost estimated at Rs 5.726 billion.
Of the total amount, the government will provide Rs 5.245 billion, while SSGC’s share will be Rs 481.36 million under the over-and-above cost criteria.
The government contribution accounts for about 91.6 percent of the overall cost, compared with around 8.4 pc contributed by SSGC.
