Specialized system being evolved to hire staff for liver transplant unit

ISLAMABAD, Jan 23 (APP):State Minister for Capital Administration and
Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that a specialized system
is being made to hire trained liver plants surgeons and intensive care specialists
at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
He stated this while responding to a Calling Attention
Notice in Senate about the non-functioning of Liver Transplant Center of
Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) due to lack of trained Liver
Transplant Surgeon, Hepatologist, Anesthetist and Intensive Care Specialists.
He said that present offer to these surgeons and specialists
is very low as compared to market rate and a system is being evolved to hire
them. He said that machinery was purchased for this unit with sustainable mechanism.
Only surgery was made and the person could
not survive, he maintained.
The minister admitted that it is hard to run this center
till hiring the trained liver plants surgeons and Hepatologist, Anesthetist and
Intensive Care Specialists.
He said that a summary has been forwarded to Prime Minister
and efforts are being made to hire them as per market rate. “The government package
is less and a specialized system would have to be evolved,” he added.
Tariq Fazal said that here has been an alternate System for
providing help to poor patients of liver through a Prime Minister Cell.
Regarding machinery of these centers, he said that 90
percent machinery is usable and its maintenance is ensure don routine basis.
