Solid measures afoot to improve standard of BHUs in ICT: Senate informed

ISLAMABAD, SEP 09 (APP): State Minister for Interior Baligur Rehman  said Friday the government was taking steps to improve the standard of the Basic Health Units (BHUs) in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Replying to a question during question-hour in the Senate, Baligur Rehman  said post graduate doctors from Federal Government Policy-Clinic (FGPC) were being deputed for serving at the BHUs.

He said doctors working in those units were being provided Suzuki  cars for pick and drop and provision of necessary equipments for mother and child care services in rural areas of ICT.

He said prime minister had also approved up-gradation of health  facilities in ICT at a cost of Rs 58.662 million.

In a written reply to the Ministry of Interior said several steps were  being taken to eradicate crimes relating to drugs, liquor and prostitution in the federal capital, adding criminal proceedings were initiated against those who were found involved in transportation of liquor.

These measures against those crimes also inlucde criminal proceedings  under the Women Protection Act 2006, against those who were found guilty under the Act, Ibid.

The House was informed that random raids were conducted at guest houses  and rothels to arrest those who were found guilty under the law.

It says a total of 1269 accused on charges of liquor, 1787 in drug cases  and 1909 accused were arrested in prostitution cases from 2012 to 2016.
