ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP):Rohri Railway Station will be upgraded under a cost-sharing plan, with both the Sindh government and Pakistan Railways bearing 50 percent each.
Acting on the Prime Minister’s directives, the Federal Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, together with the Sindh Chief Minister, announced new railway development projects across the province.
Railways Minister chaired a meeting on the Sukkur Division and outlined plans to strengthen Rohri Railway Station as a key junction in the network.
A comprehensive master plan has been finalized for the station’s upgradation, with the tender to be issued this month.
Authorities aim to complete the project by June next year. Minister Abbasi said the upgraded station will rank among the most modern in the country. Serving more than 20,000 passengers daily, officials noted that improved facilities are essential.
With Karachi Cantt Station upgraded, focus now shifts to Rohri Railway Station as part of broader efforts to modernize
Sindh’s rail infrastructure and enhance passenger services.
Pakistan Railways has also announced a major development plan for Sukkur Railway Station, aiming to restore its historical and aesthetic character.
The refurbishment and upgrade of Sukkur Express’s rakes are to be completed soon. These initiatives form part of the government’s drive to strengthen railway infrastructure, improve passenger experience, and support economic growth.
Sindh Chief Minister pledged full cooperation on the Rohri project and other development initiatives, while also prioritizing safety at unmanned railway crossings.
The Railway Minister welcomed the support, and both sides agreed to approach the Sindh Food Authority to ensure passengers are provided safe and quality food. He emphasized that food standards would not be compromised.
