Sherry Rehman Moves Senate to Discuss PIMS Tragedy, Demands Comprehensive Probe

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Sherry Rehman has submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate over the tragic deaths of 14 newborn babies at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), calling for an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Senator Sherry Rehman said the loss of 14 newborn lives at a major government hospital in the federal capital is a matter of grave public concern and cannot be treated as a routine incident.

“The failure of essential safety arrangements at the capital’s central government hospital is unacceptable. The reported non-functioning of several safety protocols at PIMS raises serious questions that must be answered,” she said.

She stressed that the deaths of 14 newborn babies constitute a matter of urgent and significant public importance, warranting an immediate discussion on the floor of the House.

Senator Rehman called for the Senate’s routine proceedings to be suspended to allow a detailed debate on the PIMS tragedy and to ensure that those responsible for any negligence are held accountable.

“A complete and transparent investigation must be conducted into this tragedy, and the House must be informed of the facts. The failure of safety systems at one of the capital’s most important public hospitals requires a serious and comprehensive review,” she added.

Sherry urged the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the deaths, examine the hospital’s safety protocols and take immediate measures to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.
