LAHORE, Oct 19 (APP): Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has been elected Pakistan Muslim League-N Punjab President unopposed in the intra-party elections, held at Expo Centre, here on Wednesday.
No other candidate filed papers against Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the results, announced by Provincial Election Commissioner Manshaullah Butt, Shehbaz Sharif was elected unopposed as the PML-N president in Punjab.
Others elected unopposed were: Malik Nadeem Kamran, senior vice president, Nighat Parveen and Arshad Khan Leghari, vice presidents, while Mian Marghoob Ahmad was elected as secretary finance and Samiullah Chaudhry as secretary information, PML-N Punjab.
On this occasion, the PML-N Punjab Council, through a unanimously adopted resolution, reposed confidence in the party leadership.
In another resolution, it strongly condemned Indian brutalities against innocent people of held Kashmir.
It also denounced Indian aggression and unprovoked firing on the Line of Control (LoC).
Addressing the PML-N Punjab council, Shehbaz Sharif said that the journey of progress and prosperity would continue under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif despite all conspiracies and hurdles.
With the completion of development projects, he said that job opportunities would be created and the economy would grow.
He said those threatening to shut Islamabad were enemies of nation’s progress and prosperity.
He said that those raising slogans of accountability were themselves surrounded by land-gabbers and loan-defaulters.
The CM said that China had given $46 billion but he failed to
understand as to why impediments were being created in the way of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He said that $1.5 billion Orange Line Metro Train was a public welfare project while China had already provided Rs 40 billion for it.
He said that the project was unique in the history of Pakistan and it would provide latest mode of transportation to hundreds of thousands of people on daily basis.
But, he added, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had filed a petition against the train project in the Supreme Court and, later on, withdrew it. Even the PTI leadership opposed the Kissan Package. This party, he added, was opposing farmers, passengers and the whole nation.
He said that the PML-N government had promoted transparency and high standards in execution of development projects and funds of billions of rupees had
been saved through this policy.
Presenting himself for accountability, the chief minister said that if corruption of even a single penny was proved against him, he should be dragged out.
He said that selfless service to the people was the mission of the PML-N government and a number of public welfare projects were being implemented speedily.
He said that it was the agenda of PML-N government to bring deprived segments into mainstream of development and all possible measures were being taken for the purpose.
He said that government’s sincere efforts to solve problems of the country were yielding results and the day was not far when Pakistan would overcome all its crises.
The CM said that due to completion of these projects by 2017, thousands of megawatt electricity would be added to the national grid, which would help control load-shedding.
“Electricity shortfall will be curbed at all costs, which will bring the nation out of darkness,” he added.
PML-N Central leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif and a large number of provincial ministers and members of the Punjab Assembly were present on the occasion.
