ISLAMABAD, Jun 14 (APP): Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed former Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team captain Sana Mir at Islamabad Airport on Thursday, following her induction into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
The minister paid tribute to Mir, commending her for bringing pride to the nation.
Accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Interprovincial Coordination, Kiran Dar and Focal Person for the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Amina Batool, the minister lauded Mir’s contributions to women’s cricket in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaza Fatima called the Hall of Fame induction a significant achievement, stating that the entire nation was proud of Mir.
She highlighted the former captain’s services, emphasizing that Mir not only represented Pakistan as a player, but also played a key role in developing women’s cricket teams across the country.
“She supported young female cricketers and advocated for the growth of women’s cricket. Her role as a captain and player is remarkable,” the minister said.
Recalling a major milestone, she noted that Mir was the first Pakistani women’s captain to defeat India in a World Cup match, describing the victory as a defining moment in her career.
Speaking to the media, Sana Mir emphasized the importance of providing opportunities to women, stating, “When you give opportunity to women, they can achieve results like I have.”
She urged belief in women’s potential, expressing hope that more women like her would rise to bring pride to the country.
Mir also reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women cricketers in Pakistan.
Parliamentary Secretary Kiran Dar praised Mir for breaking stereotypes about women’s progress, calling her a benchmark in the field of cricket.
“More Sana Mirs will come after seeing her achievements,” she said.
Amina Batool echoed the sentiment, stating that Sana Mir represented the true face of Pakistani women and had brought major achievements to the country.
