Shaza Fatima receives Azerbaijan’s medal for cooperation in public services

ISLAMABAD, Nov 05 (APP):The Republic of Azerbaijan has awarded Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja the “Republic of Azerbaijan’s Medal for Effective Cooperation with ASAN Service” in recognition of her role in promoting bilateral cooperation in public service delivery.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of IT, the award acknowledges her efforts to improve access to public services through cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
The medal was presented by Ulvi Mehdiyev, chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the UN Governance Innovation Summit in Baku.
The summit was jointly organised by the State Agency and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).
The ceremony was attended by ministers, senior officials from more than 100 countries and over 200 IT professionals.
During the event, Shaza Fatima also met Ulvi Mehdiyev and senior UN officials. They discussed ways to expand cooperation in information technology, digital governance and public service delivery.
The award highlights the growing partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in using technology to improve public services.
Modelled on Azerbaijan’s internationally recognised ASAN Service system, the Asaan Khidmat Markaz in Islamabad provides services from multiple government departments under one roof.
Addressing the summit, the minister said the centre initially offered 64 services through 12 departments and had so far served more than 171,000 citizens.
Shaza Fatima thanked Azerbaijan for its cooperation in the centre’s design, software and service delivery.
She also highlighted efforts to simplify procedures across government institutions so citizens could access public services at one place with ease and dignity.
The ministry said the partnership between Islamabad and Baku reflected the longstanding friendship between the two countries and their shared commitment to making public services more accessible and efficient.
It added that the award would help strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan in digital governance and citizen-focused public services.
