ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP):Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that the newly launched Cyber Shield Policy will provide comprehensive protection to e-governance systems, the financial sector, and health-related data.
She added that the government is actively encouraging private-sector investment under the Digital Nation Pakistan initiative.
The minister was addressing an event titled “Cybersecurity, Cyber Shield Policy and the Future,” where she described the Cyber Shield Policy as a major milestone in strengthening the country’s digital defence.
She said the policy marks a new era in Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape, offering a unified security framework for both public and private institutions.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja underscored the growing scale of digital threats, noting that cybersecurity can no longer be overlooked.
She said the Cyber Shield Policy will ensure enhanced protection for critical digital systems and safeguard sensitive national data.
Acknowledging the support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), she praised the role of Pakistani youth in defending the country’s digital borders during the recent conflict, adding that their technological skills have earned global recognition.
The minister emphasized that cybersecurity has become a matter of national security and that new opportunities are being created for young professionals in this field.
Earlier, speaking at another ceremony, the minister said Pakistan’s IT sector is progressing rapidly and offers vast opportunities for investment.
She stated that the Digital Nation Pakistan initiative aims to achieve nationwide digitalization, and that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is personally supervising the country’s digital transformation.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja further said that the government is promoting private-sector investment in line with its digital vision. She noted that the National Artificial Intelligence Policy has been introduced to support AI-driven companies and products. She added that the government is taking all necessary steps to facilitate youth in the IT sector and that these efforts have contributed to an increase in Pakistan’s IT exports.
