Shaista Malik visits ICB in connection with SDG Youth Campaign
ISLAMABAD, Sep 23 (APP):Shaista Pervaiz Malik, MNA and Convener of the Parliamentary Task Force on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), visited Islamabad College for Boys (ICB), G-6/3, on Wednesday in connection with the Hum Hain Pakistan–SDG Youth Campaign.
During her visit, she was accompanied by Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, Founding Director and CEO of the International Governance and Sustainability Institute (IG-SI) and a proud alumnus of ICB.
Dr Yaseen Aafaqui welcomed the distinguished guests on behalf of the college. Syed Nadeem Ahsan, Focal Person for the SDGs Programme at ICB, briefed them on the SDG activities and initiatives under way at the college during the campaign’s first phase.
The MNA was apprised that so far, 1,114 students have registered and completed the SDG Pre-Assessment Test, and 30 SDG awareness sessions, lectures and seminars have been held.
In September, the college marked International Literacy Day and the International Day of Peace, and student groups have been formed to carry out SDG Quick Impact Projects (QIPs).
After the briefing, the guests toured the college, including its classrooms, library and podcast studio, before moving to the historic Old Hall to meet the students taking part in the campaign.
Addressing the students in the Old Hall, Ms. Shaista Pervaiz Malik praised them for their active participation in the campaign and their commitment to learning about and promoting the SDGs.
She also acknowledged ICB’s efforts to raise awareness and engage young people in the SDG initiative, and commended the college for its strong showing in the campaign’s first phase.
She highlighted the central role of young people in achieving the SDGs in Pakistan and urged every student to reflect on their own contribution to the national development agenda.
Calling “Awareness and Action” the hallmark of the Hum Hain Pakistan campaign, she encouraged students and young people across the country to embrace it and to adopt a mindset of asking what they can do for Pakistan.
She also requested the Principal and the SDG Focal Person to send ICB students to rural schools to mentor their peers on the SDGs, carrying the campaign’s message beyond the capital.
At the close of the visit, the college presented commemorative shields to Ms. Shaista Pervaiz Malik and Dr Sultan Azam Temuri in recognition of their contributions. The visit gave the students and the institution a valuable opportunity to engage with distinguished personalities and further strengthened the objectives of the Hum Hain Pakistan–SDG Youth Campaign.
The Hum Hain Pakistan–SDG Youth Campaign is a youth-led initiative of the International Governance and Sustainability Institute (IG-SI), run in partnership with the Parliamentary Task Force on SDGs. It works through educational institutions to build awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and to turn that awareness into action by students.
