CHARSADDA Feb 21 (APP): At least seven persons have been killed and 28 others injured when a group of terrorists equipped hand generate and weapons attacked a local court at Tangi Charssdda district on Tuesday.
Deputy Inspector General Police Mardan Region, Ijaz Khan told reporters at the site of attack that a group of terrorists first opened indiscriminate firing and later hurled hand grenades towards police after they were spotted.
“Three terrorists had tried to enter the premises for subversive activities when they were spotted by the police and asked them to stop. The terrorists inside to stop, has started firing on police and threw hand grenade towards them. One of the terrorist detonated his
suicide vest near the gate of the court while the other two terrorists were shot dead by the police in an exchange of fire,” he explained.
As result of firing and blasts, seven persons were killed and 28 others injured including five policemen. The injured policemen identified as Fazl Rabbi, Ishtaiq, Bilal, Munsif and Usman.
A major tragedy was prevented by police when terrorists were stopped from entering the court premises as there was high rush of people and litigants in the morning at the Tangi Kacheri. Had they entered the court premises casualty figure may very high,” the DIG remarked.
While strongly condemning the attack, the DIG Mardan said search operation has been started to find the accused or group that had facilitated the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice soon. Importance evidences has been collected from the site of explosion and sent it to the laboratory for legal-medico examination.
Emergency has been declared in Charsadda District Headquarters Hospital and Tangi hospital besides Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar and doctors on leave were called in for duty.
Member Provincial Assembly Shaukat Yousafzai told media that as per his information the militants had come from Mohmand Agency closely located with Tangi Charssadda.
The security institutions are put in high alert position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following terrorists’ attacks in Lahore and Sehwan Sharif. Yousafzai said the culprits involved in Tangi attack could not escape from clutches of law and would be brought to justice soon.
It may be recalled that in March last year, a similar attack had killed at least 16 and injured more than 20 when a suicide bomber hit the gates of a local court building in Shabqadar district, Charsadda.
