ISLAMABAD, Jan 10 (APP):Senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Hafiz Sultan Muhammad Haqqani was died on Saturday after succumbing to injuries sustained in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack reportedly carried out by foreign militants in Lower Waziristan.
According to details, the attack occurred yesterday in Wana when Maulana Hafiz Sultan Muhammad Haqqani was returning home from a madrassa. The IED blast critically injured him and also targeted his daughter, private news channels reported.
He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for emergency treatment.
As his condition worsened, he was referred to Dera Ismail Khan for advanced medical care, but he succumbed to his injuries, attaining martyrdom.
Maulana Haqqani was a senior JUI leader in Lower Waziristan, a Wifaq-ul-Madaris al-Arabia representative and principal of Jamia Dar-ul-Uloom Ashrafia. His death has sparked grief across religious and political circles.
JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the attack, calling it a heinous act and demanded an immediate investigation along with strict punishment for those responsible.
